So far it's a tie between:

The Blood Brothers the last 5 times they've played in Toronto with the Phoenix show being the best since they played The Shame.

and

Do Make Say Think + Final Fantasy at the Harbourfront Centre for Canada Day. It was a free show. DMST played first with an amazing set with all my favourite songs with strings and horns and then Owen Pallet comes on for the last couple of songs. Owen then played his set with his killer songs and then he says "there's a few songs I can't play live due to limitations of the looping pedal" and so DMST comes back on stage and joins Owen for a few songs filling out the sound incredibly. Then for the encore Owen played a song and then DMST played. Amazing.

Haven't been to too many since I'm still a youngin' but GirlTalk at the Spingallery in Toronto was pretty awesome. I've been hooked since the first track I've listened to.

NightRipper is definately worth a download (and even a purchase). I'm usually opposed to mash-ups since they tend to leave out the intricacies of certain pieces but GirlTalk does it in an impressive fashion. From Biggie Smalls to the Beatles to Aretha Franklin.

PUBLIC ENEMY@ BB King's last March...

In my 10 years of attending shows from Hip Hop to all sorts of Rock (shit like Incubus to Indie/Post-Punk)...they were electrifying. Chuck D = the MOST high energy frontman in Hip Hop to this day...Flava = Illest hypeman in history.

They had 2/3 of the Bomb Squad in attendance/playing instruments, the drummer from Average White Band, a dude who was sick on lead guitar and an equally gifted bassist...DJ Lord did his thing filling Terminator's spot...Flava played the drums...classic shit.

RJD2, this very night. I come to the place at 10, who's next to the wardrobe... the man himself, selling CDs of unreleased shit (common stuff like In Rare Form and Constant Elevation, but also some ever rarer stuff... talked to him for 5 minutes...

First DJ played really good hip hop for a while, Souls Of Mischief, KRS One, Dilated Peoples, but all with sick beats and great for just chilling out and having some beers.

Then one of the guys from RJ's band comes up and starts playing self written songs. Guy is a freakin multitalent... played 4 instruments and sang, all within 20 minutes or so. Then the rest of the band and RJD2 himself came out and blew everyone away. The way his old songs are reinterpreted live is absolutely amazing. 2 guys on guitars, a great percussion guy and one on the keyboard, all rotating positions and all singing. Out of this world. Played classics like Ghostwriter and Since We Last Spoke, but also some lesser known stuff. For about half an hour, the band left and it was just RJD2 and 3 turntables and a sequencer. He went insane. I bought 2 CDs, one instrumental CD and one old mix from 2001, never heard either before.

Didn't bang a scene chick but it was still an absolutely amazing night, and its not often that i say that. I'll beg some of my friends who were with me to send me pictures, theres some of us chilling with RJD2, he's a great down to earth guy. Loved it.

A vague list:

Avail some time in Newport in 1998 or 99 - they were great and it was just a great laugh

Hot Water Music in the Underworld, Camden in 2000 - pretty much ditto

Emperor in the Astoria, London last year because it was Emperor!

Converge in Cardiff 2001/2? with Rise and Fall plus my own band - it was our cd release show and the place went nuts.

Been to hundreds but off the top of my head, Tom Waits at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver, October 17, 1999. He came out from the back of the theatre and walked through the audience wailing into a bullhorn while throwing sparkles in the air. The entire stage (along with Tom) was covered in dirt so that whenever he moved around he was surrounded by clouds of dust like Pigpen. Just amazing.

Anything with The Roots, whom I've seen probably about 12 times.

But specifically the one concert at Radio City Music Hall. It was a J Dilla Tribute Concert.

It was Nas, The Roots, Talib Kweli, Common, David Chappelle showed up.

It was my first time seeing Nas live, so yes it was a big deal.

Also Anything with Wu Tang

Specifically Wu Tang Clan at Hammerstein Ballroom I believe it was in 2005.

Oh

and Rage Against the Machine at Rock the Bells.

I think I've already posted in this thread, but I need to make an addition:

saw Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings at the appollo theatre about a month ago, it was the album launch and it was freaking incredible. Tight as shit band, some of the best sound I have heard in a large venue, great vibe from the crowd, and sharon jones has an awesome stage presence.

i forgot about death from above 1979, the first time pitchfork did their music festival and it was called intonation

they played just after dark and the stage was on a baseball field, and there was just a giant mass of people and dust flying everywhere, it was pretty epic

New Pornographers @ the Troc in Philly on 10.26.07 was the best concert I've been to in recent memory.

Neko Case was with them this time and they did two encores performing around 30 songs total. My friend and I couldn't think of a single song we would've like to hear that they perform.

The Rilo Kiley show a month or so ago was great too, not just because of the band, but also because of the creepy old guy with a pack of Twizzlers dancing all on a bunch of cutest 16 year olds I've ever seen. We even saw the old Twizzler guy hand them a business card with his myspace on it!! Hilarious
