Now that summer is fully here in NYC, time to rest the boots a bit, and bust out the shoes.

loving my Alden Natural Chromexcel Longwings

Those Alden LW's kick ass. Love the Natural CXL...your sock choice however, is questionable :)

I can't go sockless in the summer or my shoes would stink! I'm thinking of trying the Mocc socks.

Anybody have any experience with these:

^^Jeez! The shots on that blog show proof of an amazing photographer!

Glad you liked it. They post a different current event topic every day. Photogs are from all over the place, AP, Getty, etc. It is definitely one to add to your RSS feeds.

They've run some of the most compelling Afghanistan imagery I've seen anywhere.

I can't go sockless in the summer in my shoes,

i always wonder about the guys that really pull it off..

I believe in my case..it will ruin them in the long run with possible foot funk..

and it is just nasty to have your feet fill up with sweet inside the shoes.

i have tried a pair of the the no-shoe socks over this spring,

i got mine from Smartwool.

they look great, but just don't work well for me.

i really tried..

but they slipped around,

the edges of my feet would get stained from my shell cordovan longwings by the end of the day..

and my feet wanted something slightly more thick and cushiony.

so i said fuck it, so what if you see a bit of sock.

the sock-less trend is all about man ankle cleavage.. and i get it, it looks sharp..

But,i am gonna wear my shoes however i like,

got a pair of wigwam socks, and fell back in love wearing my shoes in the summer.

and be comfortable first in them..

The sock-less look works on dress shoes that are worn in. I can pull it off on my 3 year old Paul Smith Brogues but new shoes, yikes that'd hurt. It doesn't smell at all even on hot days if you dress appropriately.

i dont really see a problem with davchan's socks personally. mabbe its just me but i hate those low cut socks. they are good on the first wear but after a couple of washes they get loose around the elastic areas and slip off and end up covering half of your feet. these days i just go full sock (even in hot weather) or none (rarely though).

theres a bit of a blip in the grain but i'm not too concerned about that. just the stitching around the inside and outside foot that seems to be a bit too long where it ends. i thought of trimming those loose threads but not sure if they would unravel if too short. never owned too many pairs of boots before but boots that i own dont seem to end like that with the sole stitching. is this normal?

They look great . There is nothing functionally wromg with them though I understand how you feel as the little things do matter . The excess thread probably should have been trimmed off during manufacture . If it bugs you then remove it , though i dont know about scissors . The uppers on my Rannoch also have some small lighter patches near stress points ( stitched areas) I think it just might be a feature of the zug , I would " blot " dark brown polish on the area / areas affected . However after a few days wear you won't notice these things . Great pickup still , looked after prorperyl they will serve you for a long , long time .

For CrashTestBrummie ,

Ben , what s the color name of the trickers polish you have used on your Grasmere ? (If thats what you have been using ) Going onto the city today and want to pick some up from the bureau . I have been using the cognac , left on overnight , then poloshing and overlaying with a generic dark tan polish. Would be nice to use the proper stuff and leave the cognac for my Malton .

If I get a chance will take some pics of the Bureau and its' collections and post .

more pictures of my AS Kelso as promised.

Ran, those are great boots. Design classics that will be unobtainable in a few years (or months). When you are an old man (like me), young men will be running up to you and asking where you got them...

Lots of new english "work" boots lately in this thread.

Can we see how these age? This is after all a boots that look better with age thread....

Are you being deliberately ironic? ;)

As requested.

Given that I think the zug is from the same source, the Grasmere will give an idea of how the Kelso will look when a little older.

Ran, wouldn't worry about the 'blip' on the uppers as it's a feature of the zug - you'll notice this as you wear them, especially underneath on the tongue under where the laces cross.

As for the stitching, drop Carl at Plum Soles a line with a pic - I spoke to him the other day and he wasvery helpful and engaging, and obviously passionate about English footwear.

On the Kelso, blips ahoy!

I use Saphir's burgundy/bordeaux colour, think that Tricker's package it as either burgundy or oxblood. The dark brown Saphir/Tricker's polish is a good one, too, and worth getting that too - the Grasmere have had both used on them.

As opposed to the classic Lotus, which will have old men running up to you and asking where you got them... :D

They finally came!

These have the definite config and size and are surely gonna be THE BOOTS for me.

So together with Erk, Happy Hooligan and Fresco that recently posted their new SDs here are mine.

]

Are those Brown CXL & Black Dress?

Great boots denim, two tone is fantastic, just did the same on mine.

Thanks! Yours are also awesome. Quite similar!

I actually prefer the look of the single leather sole but went for something more durable without compromising aesthetics too much.

Actually, instead of clipping the threads with scissors, I'd recommend taking a lighter and burning them off. They're almost definitely poly cotton threads, so they'll melt. The end of the thread will then have a little blob of melted poly, which will keep the stitch from unraveling. The technique is pretty simple; just angle the boot so the flame doesn't scorch the leather, then light the thread. Let it burn for a second until it's short, then press on it with your finger to extinguish the flame and flatten the end of the thread.

I've done this with virtually every pair of boots I own.
