I was once interested in vibergs, but I got the runaround and never got a quote on a pair of boots. Hence, no business on my side.

Also, I wonder how insulting it would be to ask a reputable manufacturer of boots how much it would be for them to make a boot that looks just like the semi-dress, because we can't get White's to "hook us up."

I'm not interested in Viberg. Their stuff looks like White's knock-offs to me...very similar but not quite nailing the proportions just right and they always look off to me.

Viberg already makes an SD of their own, which you can see at Superdenim. And their boots really are top notch. I have a pair of their Merlot Chromexcel Engineers (they were originaly Ed's), and I love them. I am all for the Viberg option, and I'm kind of surprised no one else is. Maybe it's because a lot of people on here are not as familiar with their stuff.

You can take a look at their blog to see some models similar to the SD, like their Service Boot. I know some people seem to be interested in the perforated toe cap, and their blog shows some examples of that too.

Right, let's just stick to the subject here. The original reason for this was to try to get White's to make us a horse hide SD. I think we should explore that avenue before talking of other bootmakers, other materials, custom options etc.

If that ends up being a no go we can try for different things, such as cordovan SD or Vibergs if they are popular choices.

Viberg craftsmanship level is top.

For me it's all depends on price, if they will do it for $650 it will be a good deal, because they custom boots are starting from $500 (or close)
