say i want to shoot snowboarding at night with VERY little light other than my flash, is this even possible, cause i was having a fucking brutal time with it tonight, it was also raining so this may have been playing into the havok

I really have no business answering this, but I think it's got to be possible as long as you can have a flash that is not on your camera. I'm guessing it's called a slave strobe or flash or something. If the light source is coming from the camera, you'll just get the "party snapshot". But if you look around flickr at some of the skate & snowboard stuff, you'll see how all the flashes are coming from the sides.

But an expert could tell you that I'm probably all wrong.

ive had this xpan for about 3 years...

there are several options to go.. a lot are expensive.. but mine is probably one of the cheaper one but... is definitely a great camera.. only downside is that film/developing/printing/scanning is expensive

so im saving up for a nikon film scanner...

horizon perfekt

Is it expensive to do the developing and printing because the film comes out as a unique size? You take it to a prolab I am guessing?

your b/w is nice, i'm digging it. its seems though your model is pretty well exposed all except the face and hand, they're blown out (i'm sure you know). looks like the light is too close. the shots are a little warm. again i don't know if that's what you're lookin for. awesome shots for the d40 though.

i just took this today for a studio assignment. damn still life.

I just discovered this thread. Now I'm gonna have to go through the whole thing. I've been taking photos for a few years now. I was focusing mostly on commercial stuff, but I'm got sick of that pretty quick. I recently decided to quit trying to be a commercial photographer and just focus on personal work while I do graphic design instead. Here are a couple I did last year, not as commercial as some of my other stuff, but still a little overly slick with not much substance. I still like them though...

recently bought a 35mm, and when you talk about developing and scanning, is it that simple? obviously its what it says, but will developing in a regular photo shop and scanning on my college's scanners do? just wondering if i should maybe do it more professionaly, or certainly think about it in future...thanks

I almost wish I never found this thread. I already have at least four other threads that are 100s of pages long, where I need to start reading at page 1. Anyways, good stuff all around...

Notesee - That first photo is amazing. I take photos of cityscapes every once in a while, but I always find them cliche. Your photo is really different in a good way.

Carl - I agree with Renny, those reflections are awesome.

Corter - No gallery shows, I'd love to do one but I don't have that much stuff that isn't commercial oriented. Hopefully someday.

Octo - Are most of those all travel pics, or do you live near places like that? If it's an actual place, that's where I need to retire - or at least ride out WWIII.

Chris_n - Were you in a helicopter? Holy dizzy.

about the snowboarding thing, it's not exactly the same but sidney got some good shots (well had I been doing anything good) of me skating by setting up two flashes. not as eays in the snow and farther away but a thought.

The one of the sail boat is from Lake Geneva in Lausanne, Switzerland (one of the nicest place ive ever been), and the mountains are the French Alps (Mont-Blanc). The rest are close to my place in New Brunswick, Canada.

What school do you goto? A specific photography course?

I go to a small school in the middle of nowhere. I'm taking a digital photography course. Earlier in the year I did a small series of photos of NYC at night, so my professor wanted me to continue that set for my final project.

Thanks .. I have two or three more photos that I really like that I shot in a similar fashion.

good stuff notesee, I really like the first one. is that the same one you showed me once? similar atleast

Nah, that's a different photo, but they are pretty similar.
