Vintage Denim?

So I’ve seen the front pockets now, on what looks to be a champion AB Elfelt back pocket…No dart stitch on the front pockets, this does appear to be a later version of the Champion pants- I’ve only seen duck or denim pocket bags on Champion and Levi pants made before the factory- this pant has denim pocket bags- so it would appear that they went back to the free floating back pocket, when they changed to the more common cinch strap- that’s seen on most dart stitch pants, including their own dart stitch pant (pioneer overalls) made by Elfelt. Cool pair, so much like the pants Hodis made, only these have a different cinch strap, plus a free floating pocket.

Really great find, never I a have seen a white tab version of that jacket. I have e similar jacket but with a little e orange tab, same pocket flap shape and neppy denim.

I pretty sure that your jacket is an early european made specimen and must be mid 1960s.

here is a fine example of a similar jacket, unfortunately not my size

all these jackets share a slightly elongated tab, those unfamiliar bronze coloured button backs and the beautiful neppy denim,

that is imo superior to the standard cone denim of the era. wonder of what origin this might be!?

x-post from d-bros in case any ideas on this end of the line...

anyone recognise this pocket?

a museological question passed on to me to ask for learned friends like yourselves...

this piece was added to the a Scottish museum's collection in 1902
clearly present is a L.S. & co. rivet... [it is a pocket that seems to have been filled with sand, part of a Blackfoot horse cropper]
the thought is that is a fragment of a garment from earlier than the accession date...
... anyone have ideas on dates it might have come from, or model?

Looking at the most recent offerings by Warehouse, including their 1941 and 1942 models, l thought l'd post these beautiful Nos pre-war Levis pics from Palms vintage a little while back. Made for a very short period of time, they have a 1942 dated pocket flasher (concealed pocket rivets, rather than concealed copper rivets which is printed on the 1937 flasher) so at the start of the government restrictions, but still have the "for over 70 years" and "copper riveted" on the guarantee ticket. (Also has "copper" on the patch). They also have a black buckle, although you can't see it very well here. The most amazing thing of all though is they still retain the price sticker on the leather patch - $2.25 ! If only...

But the most important detail here (for me at least) is the yoke seam, as it has been switched back to the regular pre-1940* construction literally months before the U.S's war restrictions were imposed fully on LS&Co.

*just my own theory

Tbh l have seen more of what we would call the standard type yoke than the overlapped type, so the later 1936/earler 37 models had the standard type and maybe the switch was in/or around late 1939 for a couple of years (?) I wonder why though, as it seems just about every other denim manufacturer at that time seemed to opt for the overlapped type.

As for that middle back seam it looks like that changed in the late 1930's too, so maybe they came about together?? Would make sense.

5 months ago I stopped by a road side sale and this was nicely folded next to a few 1990's pairs...They sort of knew they were special, $100 price tag- they were asking $50 for the the 90's pairs. Doc-you said there was something about this pair you hadn't seen?

Did l? Sorry Mike can't remember what that was  :blush2:

Looking at them now, from these photos, they have hallmarks of the 40's and 50's (orange waistband stitching and copper rivets back and front) but also have hallmarks of the 60's (jacron patch without 'Every garment guaranteed' and E on back of waistband button). Maybe that's what it was, just trying to place these in the timeline.

Think the selvedge in the coin pocket disappeared around mid 50's and briefly made a reappearance around early 60's.

So l'm thinking c.1961 (?)
