Tell me you made it to Parque Lage? My favorite spot in Rio, and right next door to the home of the family I lived with.

I admit I think it's pretty ridiculous that the Cristo Redentor is now one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Great stuff guys

Nice sunset yesterday in santa monica.

Took this with my iPhone 4 while stopped at the traffic light on PCH.

Okay... you're actually making me miss SoCal a little bit.

It was a nice day and since work was caught up, I decided to take some time for myself.

First up: A nice relaxing shave. Settled on using my Revisor today. Before building the lather.

DSC_1808.jpg

After a few swirls over the Shaving Soap. This is one of my favorite Badger brushes. I like it better than my silver tip. It builds great lather. Seen with my Dirty Bird Potter Shaving Bowl.

Then I went downstairs to have some tea and fully wake. The wife had already chipped off some of the Shu'pu "ripe pu'er". So, I had some of the 066 Mengyang Guoyan 2007 that she was drinking. By the time I got there she was on about the 9th infusion, so it was looking pretty light.

DSC_1813.jpg

The boys were letting me know they were ready to go. Couldn't keep them from bouncing around to get a clear photo.

DSC_1817.jpg

Toby finally calmed down once we got to the exit gate of our neighborhood. Snapped a quick photo.

DSC_1818.jpg

We stopped at the park to wait for the wife while she road her bike to the wet-market to pick up dinner. Here's Ben looking out over the river.

And Toby relaxing in the sun

At the moment I am getting ready to eat the wife's Bing Tang Yin Er Tang. Been stewing for about 2.5hours (after soaking all night). Smells great now. Will be nice and warm to go with the cool temperature tonight.

Lovely shaving brush. What is it? My old Floris is getting a bit chipped (the downside of a slate floor in the bathroom).

Thanks Paul,

I had about 15 brushes made for me last year from knots I got up in NE China. They were gifts for friends and family for Christmas. I have 3 left in different grades. This is the one I use the most. I actually prefer it to my Rooney and Vulfix brushes, but I would love to try a Plisson.

I know what you mean about stone in the bathroom. I am always nervous about breaking my skuttle. I bet someone around you could reset your knot in a new handle. Nothing like a well broken in shaving brush.

what to do, if you finished work in the RW store and you gave your keys to your parents, who took the kids to the funfair and are so far away from coming home in expected time, and you realize that you have about two hours waiting time?

well,i visited my nice turkish neighbours, who own a little kiosk and enjoyed a few, while taking several attempts of shooting a halfway decent pic of myself.

one of several misses:

^Yikes. I think I'm going to have nightmares....

So we woke up early this morning, packed the pups, food & ourselves into the car & headed out for some sightseeing!

Sunrise

The big steel mills in Hamilton have always fascinated me. I'll have to take a tour one of these days….

We went to the Niagara Falls area to check out Queenston Heights. It was still pretty cold in the early morning - frost everywhere.

There is a memorial here for Major General Brock.

He rests in the crypt beneath the monument, but I guess it's already closed for the season.

We grabbed a self-guided hiking tour that passes through several spots where the battle was fought here.

We were all taken by this tree!

Goofing around, wearing lots of puffy warm stuff!

Our reward at the end of the hike: a stunning view towards Lake Ontario

This is my first post in WAYJDT...and I hope I get better with practice.

I'm playing bass for a musical currently. By the time we finished up I was starved so I hit up a restaurant in Chinatown...

IMG_1296.jpg

I was less than impressed.

Next day I drove up to Emmitsburg, Maryland to hang out with a friend. Emmitsburg is about 15 minutes from Camp David which is pretty cool... My GPS said the drive would only be an hour, but it ended up being closer to two unfortunately.

IMG_1298.jpg

Once I finally arrive we go out for Chinese food. I was underwhelmed again (but this was definitely better). I really need to hit up Great Wall Szechuan soon...

IMG_1297.jpg

Afterward, we went to a nice little apple orchard and I picked up chips, butters, and a jug of cider.

IMG_1304.jpg

Now I'm off to play the musical again...followed by dessert with my girls parents.

Sorry for bad pictures/lack of pictures. I'll try again soon. ;)

FUCK THIS SNOW.

well, today wasn't really all that cool. I love snow, don't get me wrong, but I hate WET snow. and this was taking down tree's and power lines like nobody's business.

5173365211_e91a35005f_z.jpg

driving around was definitely not a good idea today, which is precisely why i needed to make things more difficult for myself, so why not try to take pictures of bokeh in the wet windshield while driving on the highway at night?? yea, great idea zach.

oh well, i love crazy light patterns through water...who cares if I pay attention and endanger others? note to self, don't do this again!

5173334045_c3a4732da0_z.jpg

anyways, parked it, and went for a walk in the snow. Great thing is, the 5D is "drip proof" whatever the hell that means. I figured it was plenty good to take out in a light snow, only problem is my 50mm 1.4 is NOT anything proof, so I only took a few shots with it. good news is, the 17-40 is also weather sealed, so all was not lost. would have been pissed to miss shooting tonight.

typo? What is Noting??

5173340045_264526958e_z.jpg

and why not a little downtown, fog setting over the skyscrapers, snow falling around me. Pretty good night to be out and about.

5173339267_2d4981439d_z.jpg

No matter what time of day, what time of year, it is always a blast to take a walk down along the river in Minneapolis. Never very busy on the opposite side of downtown either, so you can have your thoughts to yourself, particularly on nights when the snow kills all of the noise of the city.

cheers everybody. the last, i dunno, 400 pages have been killer. keep it up. new posters come on!

Wasn't going to post today. Got hassled into going to the Imperial War Museum, rather than usual market jaunt. Spent 20 minutes arguing abour whether to buy the pricey WW2 DVDs just before we left. And on way home stopped by a second hand and remainder book store.

"Daad, dad, please can I get this one? It's less than £5, just like you said???"

hello all, its me again, here to flood this thread with long-windedness.

x-posted from the burgus world tour thread

hello all, its the lazy bum in me again. i have sadly allowed this thread to slip into page 4. shame on me! updating this thread has been hard but i've got an update tonight so hope you guys enjoy it!

today is a sunday and as usual its work day again. but today turned out slightly more interesting than the rest of the days.

R1002177.jpg

super packed train ride on a sunday wasn't what i was expecting. sundays are days where people are supposed to stay in, read a book and do stuff like baking (i dont know). today felt like rush hour.

R1002180.jpg

that's me in the train with hardly any room. note how people in my country love open toe footwear. its almost like shoes were never invented here! i dont know why but people love wearing their slippers out. EVERYWHERE.

R1002181.jpg

got off at my stop, city hall station, to find that it was raining. heavily. running in it would be idiotic even though i was almost late for work. but i doubt anyone would be waiting for the shop to open. so i did what i had to do.

R1002183.jpg

round the corner was a levis store. not some mega ultra amazing one which stocked a huge LVC range, but i try to make do with the time i have waiting for the rain to subside.

R1002184.jpg

great look they have going on here. heavily washed denim paired with a brand new raw jacket. jacket looks great though, wouldnt say so about the jeans. didnt check out the price, saving my money for something else.

R1002187.jpg

said 1955s and 1947s sitting in a glass case. ninja07 told me he bought a pair here and damn he was lucky because the only sizes they had left were 36 and 38. which might fit me in another few years (i hope not). price is crazy at $399SGD though. even with that $100 trade in thing going on, these are still crazy expensive. but the 1955s seemed to fit so good on ninja07.

R1002185.jpg

found some 505s. not too sure if they were LVCs but it was supposed to be because it was in the LVC section. whats the deal going on with the tag with japanese text? anybody shed some light?

R1002189.jpg

of course with some time to spare, i had to try on something. tried on a flannel shirt but meh didn't work out. fit was off, so of course i had to get a photo op. making use of the fitting room is ace.

R1002192.jpg

time check. i was pretty damn late. 25mins late for work, so i had to get wet since i didnt have an umbrella with me. bad way to start the day. late, rain, no LVC for me.

R1002195.jpg

they say good things come in pairs. damn, bad things come right after one another. when i got into the shop i realised the wall we had broken down into bare tiles was leaking. there wasn't a way to stop the leakage, water was just seeping through the walls. so i did what any good employee would do.

R1002190.jpg

i trekked back in the rain to grab ice cream at this japanese place called MOF (Ministry of Food). haha i was already wet and it was humid even though it was raining and the shop was leaking, so what was i supposed to do?! well, haven't tried the food here but i used to have dessert here all the time.

R1002191.jpg

anything japanese is good. i swear. even the ice cream tastes better. not exactly cheap but green tea ice cream with rice balls, kanten jelly and red bean was too hard to resist.

R1002193.jpg

do not let its slushy look turn you off. you will be amazed by how good it tastes! a little sweet but i havent figured out where else i could find this. rice balls were so chewy, should have topped up a dollar to get more.

R1002198.jpg

got back to the shop and investigated the new denim we were carrying. unbranded brand. huge leather patch was a turn off and the fits were too skinny. but seemed like a great competitor to APC with the dirt cheap price.

R1002205.jpg

here is the shop for a bit. i dont think i have shown a picture of this but the owner of this shop must have been in a bit of a mad hatter phase 4 years ago when it started. hanging chairs and all. i like the interiors of the shop a lot though.

R1002206.jpg

a bunch of free magazines that come in every month. note the use of yoshitomo nara here. "why is our visual arts scene so frustrating?". true true true. singapore it is!

R1002216.jpg

sat about the shop since nobody was going to come in with this dreadful weather. really being the employee of the year i am. hahaha.

R1002196.jpg

also realised how anything these days are chainstitched. this cheap uniqlo shirt i paid for was chainstitched at the sleeves. i doubt it was done on a union special though.

R1002201.jpg

did some housekeeping around the shop and found some random stuff to photograph. safety pins...

R1002200.jpg

weird looking box which said something in chinese although i have no idea what. we kept rubber bands in them. great artwork but i wonder what it was used for. judging from the courtesan in the picture and the size of the box, i have good reason to suspect they were used to keep ancient chinese condoms from maybe 200 years ago? rad if you ask me. haha.

R1002227.jpg

knocked off work after that i met a friend for dinner. along the way, we found a new store. a new surprise that would no doubt get singaporeans excited for a while. hershey's world it was called. they sold all kinds of chocolate and merch. flashbacks of charlie and the chocolate factory ensued.

R1002226.jpg

we could never find reese in singapore in the past but great way to go to building a nation of fatties!

R1002225.jpg

can i find my golden ticket to redeem a trip to visit johnny depp's lair where he locks and tortures almostnice after he gets off from work at a redwing store?

R1002224.jpg

more chocolate. amazing stuff. i need my fix on a banana split sundae now.

R1002228.jpg

headed for dinner after that nearby. place was shit hard to find even though it was located in a crowded and commercialised mall. it was tucked away secretly in a little corner.

R1002238.jpg

the birthplace of miso ramen they call it. from the looks of it i was anticipated for some fantastic food!

R1002229.jpg

typical "authentic" japanese dining table setting.

R1002230.jpg

quite a little bit to read while you make your order and wait for the food as it arrives.

R1002235.jpg

and so i got the house special ramen where they had noodles in hard or "not-so-hard" wtf. i chose hard because real men eat hard noodles. wasn't that bad, but wasn't fantastic either. could be more generous with the helping of pork though. 2 miserable slices was all i got. like seriously? soup was tasty though. have tasted better ramen in singapore.
