what are the two sides?

whenever i had a head cold when i was in hk i would go to a restaurant that did a head exploding szechuan style soup to clear me out

this thread is making me sad i aint got plane tickets

one side has a really spicy soup base with a tongue-numbing sensation. the others just chicken stock. soo tasty.

hate pad thai, just really not a fan of thai food at all. I like peanuts, sometimes like eggs, love everything else that makes up pad thai, just don't like them combined.

The more popular Viet foods kill Thai food sensibilities.

This is my favorite Korean food of the moment:

dak han mari, shit is like a chicken soup hotpot concept.

The basic dish is a whole chicken in a deep, very lightly seasoned pure chicken broth, with long lengths of leeks, huge mushroom slices, and potatoes and mochi. The chicken gets cut up into chunks, you simmer it, then eat the chicken in the soy sauce/chinese mustard/raw chili paste/garlic with bits of cabbage. Once the chicken is picked out, you can dunk a head of fresh knife cut noodles in the broth, go at them for awhile. The broth itself with just chili paste and mashed garlic plus a lil black pepper is delicious too.

Once everything is out of the pot and you just have broth left, you put a couple bowls of rice in, cook it til it's congee, dump in an egg and swirl it, and then add seaweed bits, and then eat the congee, and then the pan should be clean. It's a pretty long way for a single chicken to go.

Side dishes are usually a real cooling water-based white kimchi and some fresh green peppers and the sliced raw cabbage/green onion mix.

It costs something like $20 in Korea and feeds 3 people well. They have it in Japan too, at Korean restaurants, and it's well known amongst those who eat Korean food I guess.

yeah, it's pickles. actually, I'm not a fan of pickles at all but in here it's fine...almost tastless...just giving it some additional flavor. you can also leave them out, or just add sth different instead...it's pretty flexible.

whenever you get the chance, you should try that man...I bet you'll like that.

I'm sure it's delicious. It's beef, bacon, then another meat inside? (veal, venison?) More than three red meats in a single concoction and you're reaching stairway to heaven status.
