Hey cottonz duckiez, you never answered my question. Do the Dutch and German understand each other?

i was on the phone speaking with my bro, and he speaks both (besides french, english and a bit of spanish). he told me that two speakers couldn't really understand each other, but if you are dutch (well, if it's your mother tongue) you can understand and read german quite easy. He wasn't that sure about the other way round though.

I must've missed that, sorry, anyway in Dutch Highschool you have to take English plus another foreign language, most common choices being French, German and Spanish. Alot of Dutch people will speak German and as the languages are somewhat similar I found it very easy to pic up.

But there are too many differences in words etc for people to be able to understand eachother without practice.

Dutch and Flemish are basicly the same though...

im german and if i hadnt been born in holland the only phrase i would know is neuken in de keuken and even that is probably misspelled because ive never written anything in dutch in my life

Mijn Man! Ik heb nog met Lenn ge-persoonlijk bericht over een mogelijke ontmoet maar het word te kort dag voor mij, wel jammer.
