Oportos is... fast food. Not the best if you wanted the whole Portuguese flame grilled chicken thing. Stick with Nando's.

good chilli sauce though. i reckon for what it is (a pretty well ubiquitous food court burger chain/chicken joint) it's about the best you can get in au. that is, as long as you don't mind waiting for your food.

saltanas and unsalted roasted peanuts. together. in your mouth at the same time. best combination there is.

or the afforementioned peanuts and nutrigrain. consumed in the same way. pretty sure nutrigrain is australia only though right?

even i have to admit that looks pretty scary. well at least it's not raw right? how did it taste? i've had duck tongue before but it was sliced nicely and didn't look quite so alien...

it was basically preserved. sweet and salty; tasted alot like any other soy sauce preserved item, just that the texture was ridiculously gross. and there were tonnes of small bones. and after that your fingers smell like urine for some reason.

light breakfast for me and the missus:

btw I do actually feel a lot better today! Dont know if it has to do with eating the tom yum ramen or that I drank like 5 litres of water yesterday, I guess it may be a combination of the both?

Went for dinner out tonight at a place called il Baretto in Slurry Hills in Sydney. The place is pretty popular and its also tiny so most people leave their names and numbers, hop over to the pub across the road for a pint and a bottle and then go back when they call. I'd been meaning to come here for ages and finally did so at last. I was not to be disappointed.

Bruschetta - as you can see, i got impatient. took my first bite and knew this was going to be a good dinner.

Porcini Risotto - hearty but not cloying

rw6p3p.jpg

Spaghetti Vongole - really clean but flavorful, none of that sickly "clam urine" but still clammy and had a great white wine sauce.

Papardelle with Duck Ragu - this was divine. looked a bit sloppy but tasted great. maybe a touch light on seasoning but most people lump cheese in anyway. great flavor and color. The handcut pasta was brill as well.

Tiramisu - very light, not quite to my tastes. i like sloppy sludgy tiramisu.

Spumone - a gelato cake which was quite good.

Panna Cotta with a spiced red wine caramel - probably my fave thing tonight. so smooth and light and the tart caramel just cut through everything.

100 for 3 people, incl. corkage, although we pretty much just serve ourselves with glass tumblers. in my opinion, great pasta at a steal.

for all that? now that is really cheap! or maybe it's really expensive to go out to eat in sweden... confused0006.gif
