ate out with tweeds, generic (uhm the food i mean!) but satisfying:

i know what it looks like ^ and whilst it's no secret that i can out-eat many boys, he had a smaller meal compared to mine only because he was going home for a second round of steamboat dinner... which he failed to photograph *glares at tweeds disapprovingly*

Anyone here have any easy, quick recipes? I'm looking for something filling, because I don't really have a lot of time to cook.

I ask because I know plenty of you guys cook your own food.

I have Food Networks' 'Making It Easy' book, it's a good read and has a lot of smart recipes that taste quite nice, without much effort.

One recipe I like out of that book is this tortilla soup (featured on the cover, as well), it really takes like 15 minutes to make and everyone who eats it seems to love it.

Saute, in a few tablespoons of oil:

1 medium onion, diced

few cloves of garlic, sliced thinly

1/2 can or full can of chipotle chile en adobo, chopped finely

couple shakes of chili powder

couple shakes of cayenne

Once that is thoroughly sauteed, add:

3-4 boxes of chicken stock (that free-range Chicken stock from Costco is not too bad)... and then maybe a couple cubes of dry chicken stock if it doesn't taste 'chicken-y' enough to you, just fiddle with it a bit to your liking...

bring to a boil, simmer for a few minutes, add a couple cans of corn or hominy and simmer just a couple more minutes.

Meanwhile....

boil a pot of water, add a couple lbs of boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cook through. Drain and tear into bite-size pieces and set aside.

To serve:

Ladle broth into bowls,

Top with diced raw tomatoes, the chicken pieces, and lots of cilantro.

Break up some tortilla chips into the soup, squeeze some fresh lime juice over it all, and serve.

Other times, if I have too much chicken breast (I usually end up with way too many of these in my fridge....) I'll butterfly them and pound them out uniformly, lightly brush in olive oil, then season with sea salt, black pepper, and ground coriander seed. Throw it in my grill pan and it's done in like 4 minutes. I'll eat that served over a greek salad.

i fucking love this place late at night. a steady flow of coffee, absolute shit food and your regular assortment or derelicts: drug addicts, hookers, white-trash, etc.

and it is the only place nearby i can smoke inside. fuck madison's ban.

basically denny's is a perfect place for studying.
