Baeyer-Drewson, I have to spread rep but thanks for turning me on to this film. I really wasn't expecting the film to turn out the way it did. There's a very straight-forward story here and Sluizer goes a completely other direction. It's a pretty fresh take on the thriller genre and a film that continues to grow on me.

I realized that I posted out of order here. That was the most recent film that I watched. Since watching The Hurt Locker though I've seen these three films prior to watching The Vanishing.

I don't really know what to make of this film. It's pretty...large? It's hard to grasp what exactly is going on within the film through his use of cinema itself (at least for me). That is, what's his story here? Whatever it is, it's incredibly shot and really doesn't need dialogue. It's pretty moving without being sentimental. I'm seeing it again tomorrow or the day after.

The other two are a mixed bag. One pretty good, the other downright terrible (seriously, so bad.)

I'm pretty taken with a certain strain of British cinema right now -- their kitchen sink realism and the way directors treat the audience -- and it really seems as if this film is a step in getting to the current generation (though, I would also include Billy Liar, an earlier film).

I'm not even going to waste time talking about this.

Felt the same way about this movie. But Incredible photography there. Apparently some of those wide sweeping shots are being released as its own IMAX movie.

He's got the taste of a 14 year old hahaha. There's a few good ones in there obviously (esp the korean movies). Tarantino is such a tool...

^so cheesy though

it's the best x-men for sure, but that's not saying much.

tarantino is so irrelevant now. I felt like the least he could do was put up Audition and all those park chan wook flicks. maybe im just biased

I agree with pretty much everything that people are saying about Tarantino. I've actually never been much of a fan of his films but I seem to get a lot of shit about that. That said, I do think if there's one person who can revitalize the Western it's him. He just steals from other directors so I bet he'll make one that feels more "Western" to me than the Coen's True Grit. Plus, Django is just an awesome film.

On another note, I just rewatched this yesterday. Damn, I forgot what a great film this was; a real piece of art that also tells a moving story. I find it incredible/insane that Fassbender can do this, Fish Tank and now X-Men (can't wait to see that). He's so talented.
