4th lynch

blue_velvet.jpg

least favorite one yet. has the most brutal rape scene (far worse than the infamous clockwork orange one). also has the least surreal elements, something that i've come to look for in his films

from the ones ive seen so far ill rank them for interest sake:

1.eraserhead

2.inland empire

3.mulholland drive

4.blue velvet

based on this, any lynch fans want to suggest what to see next?

The rape scene in Clockwork Orange is tame by today's standards. I remember first seeing A Clockwork Orange and thinking how dated and tame a lot of the so-called "old ultra-violence" seemed, at least compared to what I'd heard from people who saw it near release.

I'd have to say the most brutal rape scene on film would be the one from Irreversible. That whole movie is disturbing as fuck.

have you watched the Twin Peaks TV series?

NESK: a friend who knows someone at Arthouse brought over the Basquiat movie, so I have no idea where to watch it presently. Although I believe that it is due for a summer release...

no i was thinking of watching next. should i watch fire walk with me b4 or after

tempted to neg. but since it's a matter of taste, try lost highway. i've heard some say it's closest to inland empire... not sure myself but i really like the movie.

heh yeah i was just really disappointed with the ending i guess. i was expecting jeffrey to be imagining the whole last part, and we find out that he was lobotomized just like the yellow guy

i didnt say the film was bad, i just said it was my least fav out of 4 that ive seen (which are pretty big competitors)

i suppose the main difference is the straight-forward narrative structure, and the lack of anything genuinely scary to me. i tend to find lynch's surreal worlds scarier than his realistic world portrayed here
