I recently found that the Cone denim blog is now up and after reading the Amoskeag Mills thread I realized that there is no dedicated thread for cone mills.

this is a thread for all things Cone.

website : www.conedenim.com

blog : http://conedenim.blogspot.com/

brands using cone denim (please feel free to add more to this list) :

Levi's Vintage Clothing : http://www.levisvintageclothing.com

Ande Whall : http://andewhall.bigcartel.com/

Left Field : http://www.leftfieldnyc.net

Raleigh Denim : http://raleighdenim.com/

Post O' Alls : http://www.postovera...09ss/pants.html

Tellason : http://www.tellason.com/

Rising Sun : http://risingsunjeans.com/

Roy Denim : http://www.roydenim.com/

Hartford Denim Company : http://www.hartforddenimcompany.com/

Railcar Fine Goods : http://www.railcarfinegoods.com/

Noble Denim : www.nobledenim.com

paul T's cone denim story : http://www.trynka.net/Site/Cone.html

since I'm so close to Greensboro I would eventually like to update this thread with some pictures of the factory and showroom (if they would let me) and maybe some pictures of the people who run the mill.

but for now, check out the blog. its pretty interesting.

Yeah, I have been checking out their website. they have really updated it over the past few months. I am looking forward to seeing some more white oak denim from companies. Also Left field is doing some canvas pants using some black seed cotton. Can't wait.

Also, would have rep'd if I could. A well needed thread.

yeah they do. there is some disclaimer on their section about how 3sixteen is available from selfedge because they really like the people behind the company or something like that.

they only have one cone mills product and its made with resin coated non-selvage black denim.

I was told by someone who works at Self Edge that one of the people who runs 3sixteen is or was an owner of Self Edge but was more interested in creating denim than retailing it. That would help explain why Self Edge carries 3sixteen.

Do they give tours? I will be in NC for business in the near future and I get to that part of the country few and far between that I almost feel like I need to head over there, but it is almost worthless without a tour.

Also, do they have souvenirs... like 30yds of unbleached weft denim?

on their website they say they have "showrooms" by appointment only. I've been wanting to check that out for a while now.

Not yet, it looks like it will most likely be after march, but I can't wait. I will try to check out Raleigh denim while out there. I think the company I will be visiting is in Raleigh, might not, but hopefully I can find my way there.

Was just informed about the Cone Collection in Baltimore.

THe Cone sisters, Etta and Claribel, were friends with Thomas Wolfe and Pablo Picasso; built up a huge collection of art.

More info on the sisters here;

And their collection, here:

And in the meantime, here's a washed example of Cone cotton duck, a repro of Levi's original 1870s fabric - it was one of the fabrics they were developing at the time I visited the mill last year.

A few years back I found a pair of jeans at Holt Renfrew Last call by a company called Denim Design Lab. They were labeled blank canvas and there was a cone mills - white oak hang tag advertising that the jeans were made from black seed pima cotton selvage denim. They had a blue selvage id. I bought them even though they didn't really fit because they were reduced to $59 from $450 and I loved the denim. I've been using the denim for all repairs on other jeans and I plan on using it to accent some leather projects I plan on getting to this summer. If anyone is interested I can snap some pics of the denim when I get home.
