^ how convenient, I was just about to ask opinions of Aristo.

so, opinions?

extremely happy with this watch. looks wonderful, feels great, good lum - my only criticism is that i don't think the power reserve ever reaches the advertised 40 hours. maybe 30 hours, but i've never observed 40. awesome watch!

got this one from long island watches, btw

help me out.

i want a sub but under $200.

best one i can buy?

^^^

Orient 2er00001b

Sterile Sub

Invicta 8926

Alpha Sub

i'd go with the orient.

thanks pokpok.

any other options?

i'd second the orient sub

mine is a beater

i swim with it

i am always surprised how much wrist time it gets for being a sub $100 watch

the bracelet is grievously bad though

i took a file to it to round off all the hard edges

but it still rattles around

crackerjack bullshit

but if you wear it on a nato (i do) you are golden

i mean, c'mon, the bezel does have side to side play, but for less than a hundred for an automatic watch that looks pretty decent, it is a no brainer

(never pay the full retail on these; there's always a 50% off orientusa coupon about)

I use white lightning bike chain dry lube for the bracelets. it helps with the rattle.

you're probably right, but i was able to find a vintage ocean gmt selling for more than $100 less than retail. i'm also not sure about a retailer's willingness to ship marked as an undervalued gift to avoid the rape canadian customs office.

I'd like a steel watch (handwind or automatic) with a fifties/sixties aesthetic. Baton indices and hands, a clean, simple light-coloured dial and, ideally, a fluted bezel. Oh, and a 39mm+ size.

Any suggestions? The watches that come to mind with a similar aesthetic would be like, vintage Titoni Airmasters, or old Eterna-Matic KonTikis. Any other ones that would fit the bill? A '60s Rolex Air King 5500 would be awesome, but I need peasant-priced options.
