Mac or PC

I called em Crashintosh's because people insist that Macs never crash, when, they

can fuck up just as often as any PC.

And, why are Macs the industry standard in creative enterprises? Because for the better part of last decade, Macs were genuinely able to better handle the types of programs needed in those industries. But PCs have caught up and surpassed Macs, and sticking Intel chips into Macs isn't going to change that fact any time soon.

What a fuckin' ass. Hey homeboy, he asked a simple question and here you come with the hate.. this aint a mac/pc forum... go post that crap there!! One other thing: I work in the fashion industry and I would love to know what company uses pcees for design/graphics....NO ONE. the only time i see pcees is when i collect my check and peep the data entry peeps... all pcees..dumbass! take your gaming ass-trying to look cool somewhere else!! LOL!! -geek!

As for you, I didn't come with any hate. I was merely stating my preference for PCs, and my reasons for preferring them.

Why they let illiterate dickjuicers like you work in the fashion industry, I'll never be able to explain. Who do you work for, Ecko?

The Black MacBook is a work of art, and the best computer I've ever had the pleasure of touching. It is expensive (worth it!), though I think the steep price gets you quality, speed, functionality, and overall ease of use, not to mention an amazingly gorgeous design.

[edit: and it comes with a friggin remote!]

I echo onemancult's sentiments completely. Macs are not error-free. They are somewhat idiot-proof, but that comes at a serious customization and usability cost (unless you are a Unix guru and are happy doing many things from a commandline).

Windows hardly ever crashes when used properly. "My parents' Dell had to be formatted 4 times" is hardly a valid criticism, since I'm sure your parents know very little about computers and did not take care to prevent problems. My Windows PC has crashed less than five times in four or five years, and I've never had to format it. Mac OS isn't subject to viruses and worms simply because nobody uses it, not because the OS is better.

Not to mention the availability and specialization of programs, especially free, open-source programs, is infinitely larger for Windows than for OS X. My favorite programs on Windows -- Foobar2000, ExactAudioCopy, and a few others, aren't available on OSX.

Further to the point, iTunes is a pile of clusterfuck shit.

Kakaro, I'm an Advertising major. It's closely related to Graphic Design. All we'll use in the future will be Mac, it literally dominates the digital art/design field.

I swear by my 15" PowerBook. I've never had a single problem. No crashes, no bugs, nothing. When you're working a project, you'd really want a computer that won't crash or start running slowly because it needs to be restarted, especially in mid-project.

If you're worried about software, I'm sure there is going to be plenty of people in your classes that have whichever software you need. I got the entire Adobe Creative Suite 2 from my friend who downloaded it off a torrent.

Mac is THE standard if you're pursuing Graphic Design. I don't know you're exact financial situation, except for knowing that you're on a budget. I took out a small loan (5,000 US) before I bought things I needed for college. I knew I would need to rely on my computer for nearly all of my work, with that in mind I used some of that loan to buy the top Mac laptop at the time. By doing that, I'm still satisfied with my computer regardless of the release of the new ones and I will remain satisfied for years to come.

Even if for any reason your statement is fact about PCs catching up and surpassing Macs, they will NOT replace Mac's in the Graphic Design field which is what this topic was about. Maybe you're able to do better on a PC but if you're going to work in design or start your own company, you will need to be proficient in using a Mac because that's simply what everyone else is going to be using. Not to mention the convenience and speed of the hot keys that aren't as numerous on PC's.

At the end of the day, the reason why PC's go wrong, is due to user error, nothing else. Don't blame me if you're dumb enough to open up "freeporn.exe" on a mail attachment, or hit "yes" to install "freemusic.exe"

no it isnt. computers, whatever OS they are running will break for no reason at all. it is in their nature.

Oh and OSX is pants and so is Windows, if you want a decent operating system, try Linux

which implementation? have you ever used linux? it is hardly user friendly. personally i cant be bothered compiling everything before i install it

sometimes, sometimes not. of course there will be fewer conflicts if nothing is installed, but that is hardly appropriate in a production environment. people need office, acrobat, macromedia products, anti virus etc, as well as all of the automatic updates that these products will install, including windows updates. sometimes dependencies will be broken, sometimes dlls will be overwritten or moved, or sometimes things just break. its just the way it is. sure, stupid users can break their pc with freeporn.exe, but this isnt the only way things can go wrong.

anyhow, we have gone slightly off topic here and i need to get up...

depends on if you want a swedish keyboard or not, I suspect that they have "åäö" on the macbooks that are being shipped to Sweden from apple, and probably not on the ones they send to portugal

it can be a minor problem, but more for people who use you computer than for you. you don't really look at the keyboard when you're typing so as long as you know where the right keys are (it probably takes half a day to remember), it doesn't matter that it's not a swedish keyboard. my computer has an english keyboard, but i use the french one in windows and it has never bothered me. sure when people borrow my computer they ask where the accent are (à é etc), but then, they are exactly at the same place as on their computer, it's just written something else on my keys.

Could I?

I think my resume would speak for itself- but why in the world would I want to work for a company that just laid off hundreds of employees while simultaneously pumping money into a flagship on the least culturally-relevant spot in New York?

The industry standard, as far as I've always known, is whatever gets the job done and makes money flow. That's that. I've seen extremely successful designs come to life on both platforms, why really, really bother arguing about it?

If you're going to try to troll or flame someone, at least use your brain and think up some cogent arguments. And proper grammar helps.

In my opinion, neither are better.

It just depends on what you like.

I like Macs.

They're easy to use.

For anybody.

I have to use a PC at work and I find it terribly user-unfriendly.

The interface is ugly as sin, and it's unresponsive in that it occupies a communication specific to comptuters. They're almost too comlicated or something

If you can set your watch, you can use a Mac.

I use Macs at home and they all work well, are easy to troubleshoot (which does happen), but the visual "language" they present is straightforward and clean.

I honestly don't know know why anyone would buy a PC for their home computer.

Especially in a forum where everyone is overtly interested in aesthetic.

Oh just to add, just because Apple finally has "Bootcamp" doesn't mean it can handle Windows games well, without having performance issues like low FPS. Not yet anyway.

I'll strictly use this laptop for graphic design... that'll include

using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop and not much more.

Mabye some other applications, but not any games and such.
