I've just got back from a week around Albuquerque New Mexico, which was totally made by extremely kind recommendations from @chicote. We're so grateful- thank you! Most of my photos are of family, but here are a some solo/landscape highlights, some including Working slack jeans: landscape just outside Corrales, where we were staying, on the way to a site of hundreds of Native American petroglyphs: which appear on rocks where black 'glaze' of oxidised iron is scratched away to make a lighter mark of the rock beneath: they were not easy to spot, here's a close up: we also saw a coyote clambering over the rocks, and the rest of my family saw a thorny devil (aka hornytoad, squirts blood out of its eyes), and we saw lots of anole lizards and 5-line skinks. Throwing a rock across the Rio Grande: the riverbed is almost totally dry at this time of year, where we were: best meals we had (we returned!) were at Itality in Albuquerque, on a plaza for indigenous-owned businesses, serving entirely vegetable local Native American food. It was fantastic, this photo doesn't really do the food justice but the stew was great (lentils, green chiles, summer squash), as were the 'pueblo tacos', and fry bread, which has a problematic history (devised from US-provided rations during enforced relocation), but seems to be a part of the NM culture now and tastes really good: up nearer Santa Fe the altitude is seriously high, and the clarity of light is spectacular. It's also a lot less hot, and a lot greener: Just outside the Jemez pueblo there's a calcium carbonate (chalk right?) 'frozen' waterfall: inside we found a crystal clear pool of water coming from a drip in the ceiling. Don't judge me, I tasted it, tasted like Topo Chico no lie Fenton lake, at the end of the same drive up into the mountains: the best bit for me was our visit to Sky City, the Acoma people's Pueblo- it's a long drive through pretty much desert to get there, but the landscape changes so radically with the geology that the drive itself was one of the best bits. It's at the top of a mesa (flat top mountain) and we got a bus up, and a tour by a woman whose family have a home there. Here's the view from the top: and the streets: a stairway to the skies (the top horizontal is a cloud, the verticals are rain) bread oven: the walk down is on very steep steps cut into the rock, with scooped hand holds: on our last day we went to Tinkertown, halfway up to Sandia Peak, which is the mountain that looks over Albuquerque. It's barely describable, but it's a gallery/workshop/home of Ross Ward, who was a sign painter and model maker. There are thousands of carved figures and scenes, a lot of them automata, mostly in the circus/fairground vernacular. Plus a boat that his brother built and sailed around the world, plus vast collections of pretty much anything you can imagine, all jammed into tight wooden corridors and rooms built out of concrete with thousands of glass bottles set into them, which act as windows, like this: bonus picture, I thought it was really cool that construction workers had hard hats with clip-on wide brims and sun/insect nets: Again, @chicote I'm just so grateful for all the time you took putting this itinerary for us together, I think we did all but one thing you suggested, which was too far of a drive. Best trip in ages.27 points

Ok, finally got it sorted on the url upload. Sufu just doesn't like the "share" link that Google creates. But if I copy that link, paste in the browser, copy the new url that populates and then use that url, Sufu accepts the image upload. I've gotten a couple entry level vintage watches recently and this 1961 Hamilton A-600 Automatic is my absolute favorite. I was watching "Queer" and yes, noticed the suits and slacks, but more so noticed the watches. That era had a little bubble to the crystal that I love. So I started hunting through 50s and 60s watches until I came across this one. It was originally gaining four minutes a day. I got it serviced and now it's losing one minute per day. Not bad for an 64 year old watch picked up on the cheap from eBay. WoM jeans visible beneath.24 points

M11027 Shoulders: 42cm (listed as 44cm) Chest: 50cm (listed as 51cm) Sleeve from arm opening: 56cm (listed as 57cm) Back length: 52.5cm (listed 53cm) No size markings left on patch Single sided pocket tag - no text on back or mention of size Body and sleeve length are good but extra width would have been nice. At rest the shoulders are okay but I could use a few extra cm mobility-wise19 points

60s jeans (one-washed) with probably ~6-8 months’ worth of total wear. I picked these up in 2019 but totally miscalculated the rise at the time, and really only started wearing them the last year now that they fit me better. I love the watch pocket “lightning bolt” that I remember @501XX4EVER pointing out about 1960s Levi’s.18 points

One of my oldest, dearest friends whipped me up some custom jeans His brand is Blake Edward, and these are his Style one jeans. I sourced the denim from another friend, which I believe is Kuroki? High rise, wide leg 4 pocket jean with deep front and back pockets The front pocket shape is so good - easily fits my hands while simultaneously, comfortably, and securely takes a knife or tape measure due to their J shape I can’t wear blue jeans to work these days, so these’ll get wear tested 5 days a week18 points

Always thought the 1501 0117, 2501 0117, 3501 0117 and 4501 0117 stamped on the two horse patch on a pair of Levis 501's was a mid 1970s thing until maybe very early 1980s, but found this pair in a vintage store online and they are clearly a late 1960s pair, got the V stitch and Big E, so had to share. The 1 and 2 prefixes were there to indicate longer than standard leg lengths, 1 indicating 38" leg length and 2 indicating 40" leg length. The 3 was used as a prefix to pairs with a waist size of 44 or above regardless of leg length (?) and the 4 prefix l've seen only on those massive display pairs of 501's in a size 76x45.13 points

At the end of the day, it's about style. These jeans have a very deliberate style and if it isn't what you're looking for, it isn't gonna work. Many jeans intentionally try to be completely non-descript (WH1001, SD101, SC47, etc.) and that makes them blend easily into simple, generic outfits (not meat as a pejorative, but perhaps a little shade thrown). The 0105 is aggressively anti-fit and requires you to lean into that for it to work. In the 13.7, you may be able to finesse the sizing to avoid that, but on the SS it just is what it is. I love them both and I have the SS tux. Every time I wash my WoM and I put on my SS pair, I miss it. The big ol' saggy butt and easy fit feels so good and is easy for me to work into a tucked shirt, lower on the waist paired with loafers easy day outfit. I also wore my 13.7s last week while doing some motorcycle maintenance. Damn, still my all time favorite pair of jeans. Hands down.12 points

Anyone going to be in Osaka on September 21st? Slash is releasing a tux at the Samurai shop, he's done these pairs in the past where he uses Samurai's denim and hardware. Would love a pair, I tried on some of the S2000HX (which I think use the same 15 oz. denim) but talked myself out of them. Here's a link to the Instagram post, and the Osaka shop has a few other posts referencing the previous releases.10 points

Pulled the trigger on some orizzonti era Denime. Been on the hunt for a while but it was hard to find something in good shape. With the help and advice of beautiful_freak I was able to find something. size 31 measuring 15 laid flat the inseam was advertised as unhemmed which is also rare, measuring about 33 inches. there is crazy leg twist, and shorter than 36 inseam so I’m going to guess these have been washed. They look like they’re been worn for a week. I always wondered how these would fit me, never found a reliable size chart before warehouse took over, never really much information to me. They have baggy thighs and an 8 inch opening and a high rise. I’m guessing these are a relaxed taper. I assume they’re a 501 replica, just not sure what year.9 points

@PrettyBoyTony Hopefully you can pick out the numbers on the tape there. More faded pair on left is the 47. One detail I prefer is the rear pocket design on them. Overall I think I prefer the 47, but I do like both. Basically, waist is slightly bigger on the 54’s front and back rise lower, and have less taper than the 47’s (23cm vs 22cm at 70cm inseam). The thigh is actually the same on both, but the rise makes the fit different of course. If you’re in the market for a 47 cut my honest recommendation is the WH DD1001XX 47’s. However, these do come in a close second.7 points

We're all getting up there I guess ha. I used to be a decent enough casual runner, I would try to clock a sub 5 mile as my sort of annual check in. But now I am always training around some sort of injury and I've had to add 30 seconds on to that baseline and be happy with it. Sore achilles for the past 6-7 years (gets better then I overdo it), elbow tendinitis for the better part of four years (trips to PT, gets better, then I overdo it), IT band pain (when my achilles isn't hurting). Sprained ankle every once in awhile too. I wish I could climb but I'm at a strength/conditioning gym 3-5 days a week and just can't add anything on top of that - but I know enough to know that I need that to keep some baseline functioning. Total recovery has seemed to be sort of a pie in the sky notion since I turned 35 (which is some years ago now), lol. But when something is hurting at least there is always something else to do that avoids it! I was just telling my wife though that I need to recalibrate my routines for my current age. Less high intensity and more yoga and walking I think is in the cards. It's just hard for me to "slow down" so to speak, moreso recently than in some years, which is all the more reason that I need to.7 points

Wait till you hit your 50s JW, recovery takes an age.. i've only just recovered from an achilles injury from June 2024 I'd had time away from tennis while i'd been working on the bathroom project.. then i played one of the neighbours on the local clay courts.. i'd never played on clay before and wans't used to the loose powdery surface.. maybe Chucks wern't the best choice of footwear either? At the end of the match i limped home, elevated / iced but by the time i went to bed, i had to go upstairs, backwards on my arse... i couldn't play tennis for 6weeks although cycling was fine. @MJF9 is sick of hearing about it First match thereafter, post-physio.. i strapped my ankle up tight af but tore the calf in my left leg (typical tennis-leg injury) i heard an audible POP! .. I was trying to put less pressure on my injured achilles.. to add insult to injury, i had an allergic reaction to the lycra in the strapping so my lower leg was covered in what looked like burn blisters.. for 6mths after just carrying bags of shopping from the car would hurt my heel.. i couldn't even put my feet up on the footstool. 14mths later i'm now pain free again.. 10am this morning, waiting for the offspring. Do you think Taylor Fritz has to bring a brush to sweep the court..7 points

The Copper King repro just arrived, and damn is the fabric stiff compared to the 101-J I've been wearing. When the description says high sleeve holes, they really mean it. Gonna throw it in the wash and dryer to soften it up and put up some pics when I get the chance... it's a ballin' jacket. The denim is super dark too as b_f said, I compared it to my TCB S40's (which are the darkest jeans I think I've ever owned) and the Gardeners are still noticeably darker.6 points

As an aside from your other points, this is the answer. I deleted my account about 3k followers a good while ago (photo, not denim). As a photographer I work slowly on more long form and often conceptual projects - I work a way that is anathema to the sort of constant posting IG would want. I never was one for showing anything but my actual work and IG wants you to put your whole (best, curated, bullshit) life on blast. Back in 2012/2013 I actually was decent enough at social media, had a pretty good Tumblr presence, had a fairly active early IG account and derived a good bit of work, visibility and even publications and opportunities to show work in gallery from them. But I posted a lot, a lot I wouldn’t want to now, and my inner critic was far less developed. It was also a different time before everything had been so pushed towards monetization (of course all the founders knew that was coming, they just needed the participants first). A lot of my colleagues in industry thought I was nuts for deleting IG but man, my life is so much better without it, and my personal connections that I have derived work from haven’t cared a bit. Long term, it’s not a great marketing strategy but a lot of years of very specific living and planning have allowed me to do that. I know this isn’t about denim here, but this forum is good because you get dialogue, information, opinions, ancillary discussions (like this). All I ever saw on denim IG (and I never looked hard, so I’m sure I missed stuff) was purely based around consumption and posing. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not above that. But it’s not what really holds my interest the most. Anyways, yes, if you’re not spending active time on their platforms and engaging, they are punishing you. And also, excuse me, but fuck meta. My primarily “online” engagement these days consists of forums - this one and a photography one, group text threads with friends, voice calls, and I write an occasional letter from my website that I have a few hundred people with me on - which occasionally leads to some really nice and personal email exchanges. Way less volume than social media but feels more right, for whatever it’s worth.6 points

I think one of the biggest challenges facing niche communities like ours is the dwindling attention span of the overall populace. Especially when something like a pair of jeans can take months on end of commitment to get any sort of real "accomplishment" from. Instant gratification and dopamine hits from short form media are things that are already having a big impact on society and I'm personally concerned it'll only get worse. I just saw another headline recently that said reading for enjoyment is down 40% compared to ~20 years ago. I'm not sure if this is necessarily directly applicable to your point, but it's been on my mind lately. I recently saw a clip from NPR from a few years back talking about screen time for children and the difference between good and bad screen time. Essentially breaking down why we've never seen this sort of societal disconnect that some of the younger generations are exhibiting. And the psychologist talking said a big part of it has to do with the instant dopamine hits that kids get out of short form content, they're trained at a young age to continuously consume and seek those short term fixes. He went on to say that "good" screen time is watching something together (either with family or friends) that has a clearly defined time limit and story or meaning where you learn details about the characters and plot (even if they're menial). I've been trying to find the clip to share but no luck so far.6 points
