cold, rainy saturday, so I had to do some laundry.

we have some crappy industrial washers and dryers at my school, so this was my attempt at holding them steady while a ton of towels were in the dryer.

I got frustrated and decided to treat the shotty machinery the only way I know how...with force:

First thing last night, I gave the Strongholds a nice warm soak.

Started out the day right with some organic raisin bran and the best coffee in the world. It's from a local shop that roasts by the pound while you wait.

Had to get started by 10 so I didn't miss Car Talk on the radio.

First job was to install a ceiling fan box just in case someone wants to swap out the light for a ceiling fan someday. (sorry for the butt shot)

Next job- running cat-5e and coax to two rooms in case the next owners want wired voice/data/cable. This took longer than expected because I kept having to run up and down two flights of stairs.

Lunch break! Grilled cheese (muenster+Jarlsberg) on homemade bread.

All tidied up and secured! I had to bust a hole in the ceiling to get the cables through the upper floor.

Since I had finished the work I intended, and needed some parts, I thought I'd head into town and do a little skate skiing. Not exactly my usual skiing attire, but whatever.

a winter storm came through last night and left a heap of snow and ice all over north carolina. this usually happens maybe once a year. people go bananas, like they've never seen it before. cities and towns are crippled by the ice and snow cause there arent any plows to get rid of it. also... in greenville, all normal laws go out the window. public urination and drunkenness run rampant with plenty of rednecks drivin their big trucks around.

this is from last night. my girlfriend and some other friends went out and did some exploring during the snowfall.

yeah, its pretty funny. I moved here from Rochester Minnesota, and seeing the difference is crazy.

just like you said, people run to the grocery stores and buy out all their bottled water and canned food and stuff, even before the first snow flake falls.

but in reality it can get pretty bad here. the ice is the biggest problem. it may not get below zero, but this wintery mix/snow stuff freezes over night and causes a freezing thawing pattern that seriously messes with the roads (cause there arent any plows) and brings down trees and power lines, which leads to serious power outages...which isnt very fun in the winter.

Part 1...

Well, I figured I was going to have a nice, relaxing day.... Recover from jet lag, sip hot cocoa, yada, yada... Nope. Family wanted more exciting things!

I couldn't believe how cold it had gotten while I was away, and my SExDB's are too tight for longjohns! So I changed into my heaviest weight jeans (21 oz'ers) and had my super-duper red hot rooster long underwear on!

Took the pups for a quick walk around the 'hood, then we headed over to the Ontario Science Center. Lots of cool stuff for kids to do & see, including water-works, perpetual motion Rube Goldberg-like machines, robotics, and whatnot.

Then we headed down to the AGO, since our daughter had not seen the Pharaoh exhibit. No cameras allowed in the exhibit, but the display was stunning. Rumor has it, the exhibit might make another stop, but it will then go back to Egypt for good.

Stopped into Lemongrass, one of our favorite Thai/Viet places, on the way home.

Ended the (early) evening with a luscious mango ice cream!

went out for drinks at this place after. was really obscure, down an alley in Shibuya, up a dark flight of stairs on the 5th floor. only a small thin window looking out over the chaos outside. inside, classic miles davis, dexter gordon, and surprisingly, great Japanese whiskey.

and then the bartender brought this out of the back. 24 year old Japanese single malt...it was by far the greatest glass of scotch i've had in my life, kills my Macallan cask strength any day.

had drinks with an Argentinean traveler, two gorgeous Japanese girls, my bud Masaji, and an Iranian poet and musician (pictured here). couldn't have asked for a more awesome and interesting night of drinking, laughing, and sharing stories.

well...that was my trip through photos. can't wait to go back next winter and do it all again, maybe in a pair of those Eternal 811 contest jeans i've been hearing about??????
