i might still try for the business card. although to be honest, i have no idea what the functions of the abc will be. anyone know?

i assume there would be a bottle opener, a knife, and maybe toss in a flathead + prybar... i don't think there would be a wrench though, because wrench+ knife seems really dangerous... just my guess

Anyone have a good lead on a hex key multitool? I bought one of those folding joints from Park Tool and it just busted in half when I pressure on it. Looking for something rigid, like a mini tire iron or something with the major sizes on it.

try the bicycle thread for answers, too...

Almost forgot that I had this one in the bag still! so I might give the bakoda to my bro or somethin' This was a Dakine that they haven't made in a few years but is really useful and small enough to carry. Plus my two ghetto tools in case all else fails or gets lost and I have to run back to the car.

this is the general stuff i usually carry every day.

-lately ive been using a Quark 123 Tactical instead of the Nitecore EZAA-w. The Nitecore is more pocketable but the Quark works better for what i have to use it for at work.

-knife is a benchmade mini-griptilian, love that thing. very easy to carry and very nice to use. it has saved my ass in a few occasions.

-i use a basic biner clip for my keys, thats a headporter one ive had for a few years. i keep a pocket LED on it cuz sometimes i need a small light when using my keys at night. i originally got that mini purell for travel purposes but i've gotten used to just keeping it on me all the time (its refillable).

-pen is a Zebra Telescope. its stainless steel and can retract to a full length pen. when closed it's pretty tiny, as pictured.

-Zippo i've had for 9 years

-watch.. that's a riki watanabe watch in the picture but nowadays i usually wear a seiko skx031

-cdg side zip wallet... gf gave it to me a while back. i highly prefer slim wallets over bulky ones.

-Naphcon A... covers up red eyes... stoner edc

^i like it. its very easy to clip in your pocket because its so short when retracted. i dont like mini-pens because they're usually not comfortable to use imo, but this design solves that problem. when extended, its a full-size pen. when you retract the pen, a shield pops up and covers the ball point too. the ball point writes smoothly, much better than the papermate pens at the post office or bank. these are not expensive either, like $5 for 2.

no hate intended, but can anyone explain the reason why Atwood is so popular here? i realize and respect the quality of the instrument, but i don't really understand people are eager to spend $65+ on a glorified bottle opener pretty much (a generalization, but how many of you atwood guys really do use the hex bit regularly enough to justify the investment?)

again, no hate, you do you and i'll do me, but i'm just curious

they're just rare and unsual little tools... made in limited batches in limited colorways and materials. great for those who like to collect or those who like to scalp things..

I have to say there is definitely some sort of appeal aesthetically and also in its exclusiveness.. I think the majority of us enjoy collecting and take pride in what we own, if we didn't we wouldn't care about what we carried, what we get, or what we lose, etc.

However, I do feel that many Atwood tools, as ddml so eloquently said, are "vaguely utilitarian," and for that reason I can't justify buying one.

i do use it a lot more than i thought

but really... you'd get as much use out of a $10 (say) gerber shard (almost----i use the wrench feature of the g-3 prybaby more than any of the other features [except maybe the bottle opener])

Would the shard have been available, i probably would have gotten it instead. But im impatient.

and obviously, i like the sort of exclusivity that comes with the Atwood, in the same way that i enjoy less ubiquitous clothes. And besides, these little things keep their values, so if ever i regret i can always resell. Just take a look at the ebay auctions, there's definitely a demand for the stuff

What do you want in your knife?

Laguioles are very elegant knives, they serve as great gentlemen's knife and are nice for collecting too. It'll definitely get people talking when you take it out

The thing that bothers me the most though is the opening system. You can't open them one-handed, and there is no closing mechanism except "apply great force to the back of the blade until you overcome the lockback", which is very impractical imo. I'm always scared of cutting my fingers, the handle being so small.

Cricket seems more of an EDC knife to me, but i guess branespload might be more helpful on this
