my 2 cents.

lots of action, guns and cars and massive explosions, but ultimately its style over substance. a reaction to bourne is fair comment, even the free running thing is stolen from it.

but daniel craig is a suitable choice. cold calculating and utterly humourless.

that english girl was utter utter crap. can only imagine she must have some very powerful friends, coz she cant act and it seems the part was shoehorned in at the last minute.

she doesnt want to get laid, then bond says "i show u some stationary" and wham bam thank you ma'am, shes laid.

but dame judi dench is class. dont mess

yeah I know they sticking to the the books more, and jmatty is right, it has a lot to do with the age of film we are in. The problem is mostly mine, not the films, I find it hard to appreciate 00s action films compared to 90s action films...

Bond films have always meant to be appealing to everyone, and have always been a reflection of the times they were made, so this is at least consistent.

Well the thing with James Bond actors is that they obviously age and become too old for the part or uninterested after doing so many. But it seems like the actors/actresses who play M' date=' Q, or even Moneypenny seem to still hold interest in appearing in the films. If John Cleese or Judy Dench aged, at this point in their life, wouldn't you say you would hardly notice because they are already fairly old? Yet since Daniel Craig isn't too old, it's a lot easier to notice his aging. Take Roger Moore for instance, when he first started doing Bond films he was 45 and in his last film as Bond he was 58 and you could CLEARLY see how old he had gotten. After a while wouldn't you say enough is enough, this dude is too old to be a steezy British secret agent doing all these mind-blowing missions, all the while bedding several attractive woman so effortlessly?

Well the key thing you said was that they are trying to go back to the roots of Bond and in the Bond stories, Q was rarely mentioned and James Bond didn't really rely on gadgets to get things done. Although in the films, it sorta became a staple to have some over the top new technology for 007 to incorporate into his assignments, but since Casino Royale, Q and all the gadgetry have taken a hiatus which is more true to Ian Fleming's work. I mean do you remember the fucking invisible car in Die Another Day? That was just getting out of hand.

DAMN, LOTS OF RANTING.[/quote']

so did all the original older actors die or something? my main shit, was about why they made a woman the head of the agency instead of replacing the the male character with a male actor? call it sexist, but i cannot fathom a female runnin all this espionage shit.

and is it the intent of the new films to follow to ian flemmings novels more closely?

if so, it will b interesting to see how they balance out his vision with that of a biz franchise.

^you obviously know all the old actors are alive. Sean Connery felt he was bigger than Bond and became tired of the role, George Lazenby was next and I can't recall what the reason was he was Bond only for one film but a lot of critics didn't like his portrayal of the character (I think I read somewhere that he would of been open to play Bond again.) Roger Moore was next and was considered even before Lazenby and even way back for Dr. No but was tied up in other projects, but retired from the role because he felt he was too old and the same goes for Timothy Dalton who was next as he also felt he got too old to play the part. Pierce was next and probably would of done more Bonds but due to the poorness of Die Another Day, the search for a new Bond was pretty much underway and Pierce began to realize he was too old and had moved on from being 007.

But I understand the whole confusion as to why choose a woman to be M, since M was ALWAYS a male. I dunno mayne, perhaps to appeal to women?

George L actually quit after OHMSS. His agent and him thought the character was too much for those hippie dippie times. A out dated faciast. I have seen a interview where he was clearly bummed he made that choice. OHMSS was actually the most successful bond film to date when it was released. Go figure, I can take or leave it.

anyone that wants to wax bond and talk about moon raker is a fool, and should be ignored or set on fire... it was little more than a star wars bond movie, i hate it so much, anything with jaws in it just makes me mad though.

i have to say that i love dr. no, from russia with love, man with the golden gun, gold finger...

the living daylights was ok, as was license to kill, but dalton really never got a good movie, what a odd time for the franchice, even though lisince to kill is ok, its not a bond movie, its a bond revenge movie. Taking down a drug dealer, come on... funny to see a young binecio deltoro in it though... i do think GoldenEye kicked ass though, was a lot of fun, and the only brosnan film where he does not look like a old man...

im sure im missing some, but its all good, i like bond a lot, i just think its kinda sad that the bourne identity had to show it what people wanted from the future movies, craig is good enough i guess, but nothing would have topped clive owen getting the part like they said he would.... too bad.

Yet even with that said' date=' you cannot deny that Goldeneye was a great Bond film and brought life back into the legacy after that long hiatus in which the last film was License To Kill with Timothy Dalton. [/quote']

Goldeneye is the only good Brosnan Bond flick, mostly because it was written with Dalton in mind and was directed by the same guy who did Casino Royale.

Dalton totally underrated, IMHO. I like the vicious streak his Bond had.

the reason i enjoyed casino royale was that it felt like it could stand on its own, without the whole bond franchise behind it.

it could be appreciated as a stand alone film.

but quantum doesnt have that for me.

plus it was like an extended sony ericcson advert.

bond literally saves the world with his phone. (kinda like the orange adverts in uk cinemas)

Just like in CR the product placment really pissed me off, the "omega" line in that and the stupid sony mp3 player shots irritated me thoughout. This time the ford shots were equally annoying and shitty, altough the tom ford was another matter. It was very stylish but too bourne, bond was too monosylabic a perosnality, he needed more girls, more quipe more heart. He was a "cold barstard" but the image dose not work unless we are reminded that he really can bleed, which was what made something like the torture scene in CR work so well.
