501xx on patch, as well as no levis on red tab, whats the deal?

Just a regular, prewashed pair of 501s? From the thread on XX significance, it seems that this pair contradicts what alot of people were saying about the designation.

This pair may have little significance but id be interested if there was something to these details. Levis outlets are always sweet

unless those are a brand-new pair those were prob once stf's. someone once mentioned that levi's has to release a certain number of jeans w/the red tab and no 'levis' to maintain the red tab itself as a trademark.

That's correct, it stops anybody else using a red tab whatever the name on it - except in Japan, where I don't think they registered it in time. I think the blank tabs appeared from 1971-ish.

XX does usually denote shrink to fits, but you can get shrink to fits without the XX, and there have been XX 501s that weren't shrink to fit.

I used to avoid the ones with the plain red tab because I thought they must be some kind of factory seconds if Levis wouldn't put their name on the tab. lol

I did get them at an outlet 2 years ago, and they were a light wash, not vintage.

I saw a pair in Kohl's (of all places) today that were marked just like this. Very dark like a one wash. I could only find one pair though amongst all the other regular 501's (no XX markings). Strange.

i have a pair of newer STF's like this. they seem a bit heavier than my other STF's, but it could be in my mind
