Ah, "Sad Bastard Music". I actually like Belle & Sebastian, but that line from High Fidelity always bops into my head when I listen to them.

hah-- just yesterday i was talking about Belle & Sebastian with someone and we talked about High Fidelity. she didn't know they name dropped B&S till she finally knew what 'music was'.

i actually haven't seen the movie in a few years so i've completely forgotten.

I am not that much of a fan of the movie to have commited the lines to heart, but there are some great lines, and the soundtrack has got to be on the top ten best soundtracks of all time. From Dylan to Sheila Nichols to Stevie Wonder, without ever being hackneyed. Classic. I wish I could make a mixed tape one tenth as good.

coolest CD I've heard in a while:

Jonathan Kane - February

Kane is the drummer from Swans, and his debut solo CD is an incredible droning country-blues extravaganza that sounds kind of like Lynyrd Skynyrd if all the members of Skynyrd were German and were previously in Faust/Neu.

totally amazing.

yeah, it is. I don't own the CD but I definitely need to buy it.

A collab with Conrad would make tons of sense, because the whole CD is very clearly heavily inspired by minimalism. The first song is 12 minutes long and essentially it's the same riff over and over and over with slight alterations but god damn it's hypnotic.
