Tree dude has herpes and a compromised immune system, not an autoimmune condition. I watched like a bajillion documentaries about him this summer.

I'm not saying you're wrong, you probably know more about this guy than me but theres more to that. herpes is normally a virus that will cause an initial outbreak and lay dormant in peoples nerves only to occasionally cause vesicular outbreaks (herpes zoster) on the dermatomes that the nerves supply:

but this guy has outbreaks that seem to be in irregular pattern, many people with herpes have compromised immune systems but they don't become tree-men or women. its super-rare and theres definately more to this condition than herpes and compromised immune system.
