yes or no? / this or that?

I donno', they seemed nice to me, but hey, maybe I haven't handled proper leather? It smelled like horsehide, and they said that some 80-year-old Italian cobbler down the street commented on their quality as well.

Mike, when you tried them on, did they appear as they did in the image above, or were they a different, more reddy brown colour?

Are the Opening Ceremony desert boots in black a better choice? From what I heard, they fell apart pretty bad too..

Is there no laceup boot thread, or am I not looking hard enough?

Ok, I guess you're right.. But there's still something about the CPs that attracts me.. I think it's the same thing that attracted me to the desert boots.. There's no toe cap, and the laces don't go down very far, but just far enough.

You can get Aldens without the toe cap.

I didn't try any of the dress CPs but I would get shoes from a proper shoemaker instead. Don't get me wrong, I like the regular, rubber soled CPs (have few pairs) but there is nothing special in the dress ones and constructions doesn't seem that great.

Yea, i still don't understand why someone wouldn't just get Aldens if they were going to drop $400+ on boots like that. I don't like that new picture. The toe and rest of shape looks a bit more unflattering. But seriously, aldens are nice. I'd rather use them for boots and CP for sneakers personally.

Alright, thanks everyone, I will take all this to heart when deciding on which lace boot to buy.. I can't get off the CPs though.. I love the military aesthetic they have. I suppose that once I've checked out the alternatives, I'll sing a different tune.

As far as details go the officers boots are a clear winner. The way the sole is attached (hidden stitching i guess) looks sleeker and the toe has a lower sleeker profile. The angled heel piece looks good too. Can't comment on the quality of leather or construction though. I'm judging purely the aesthetics, not which one will serve you best as an actual boot.

Well I'm not much of a boot junkie, honestly, I just keep buying CPs, but I view the boots from an almost purely aesthetic viewpoint.

While the Aldens are veery nice, and most likely extremely nice leather, the sole bugs me and so does the toe, those are actually my two main issues with most boots.

Would be nice to have something that lasted a very very very long time though, even with a stupid golden serial number on the side.
