Kapital jeans

I remember reading about Kapital jeans, but I don't think they have their own topic. I received a pair of the Cisco model so I figured I might as well start one. I didn't have the money for the natural indigo one, and didn't care for their repro model, so the Cisco seemed to be a good choice, at a very decent price (15,500 yens).

For some reason, the cut is different from what I expected, it's very slim and low rise. I also sized down one, which was dumb. It took me a few minutes to button the jeans, and they need to stretch to feel comfortable, but it should work.

The denim is very dark, almost black and very smooth. It kind of reminds me of the feeling of the 00X denim used by Studio d'Artisan, even if the denim of the Cisco is RHT.

they've got a great little store in roppongi hills, i get all my hem work done there, super quick and cheap. i've always been tempted to buy a pair because the denim is great, however i found there fits strange. The brand is preety similar to 45rpm in terms of the products they sell (jeans and other clothing).

Kapital garments aren't available on rakuten, you can get them through their webstore at kapital.jp.

I recently bought a few items at their Roppongi store, and I would personally put these above 45RPM for their tops and pants. Their jeans are much cheaper than 45, but the rivets are usually plain no-signature models. The denim is great though. I personally felt the denim on cisco was close to flathead 3001. The set back is that these are relatively small/short, they only make up to what would be about US large for pants&tops, and inseams are generally around 33".

The clerk at roppongi store gave me a half-inch thick catalog(07SS though), I might post scans of it here when I find the time.

I bought a pair of the TH Straights in the Kobe store about 2 weeks ago. They fit me like a dream. I couldn't quite believe it so tried on two or three other cuts (Cisco, Dakota, and the Cactus, I believe) and they were fuggly as hell. I particularly despised the Cisco, which annoyed me because they are so reasonably priced. Gorgeous material. I can't quite get over them.

  • 2 months later...

I scanned their 2007FW catalogue and uploaded them. If anyone knows better way to make PDFs(jpg to pdf software) or place for speedier downloads, let me know.

This brand is fairly similar to 45RPM, but the price points are much more generous and fair IMO. This being my favorite brand at this moment, I will have no trouble doing store pick ups at any price. They will be getting stocks in until December for the current collection, and there are still a lot of stuffs available from the last season. I will try to upload the 2007ss catalogue as well when I find time.

I like Kapital.

I strongly suggest that anyone considering buying the Zipangs to try them on first. The sizing is strange. Very small waist compared to the tagged size and wider legs than you may expect.

I like them too, ring. I didn't find the sizing or the cut of the Zipangs strange, however. Maybe they've changed since you tried them.

Note that the "TH straight" model is exactly the same cut as the Zipang, the only difference being the indigo (and consequently the price..). I was vascillating between one and the other when the shop assistant (Naoki) said 'do you have some time?' When I said yes, he told me they had a 1-year old sample of each in another Kapital shop nearby. We walked over -- they both looked good, but the Zipangs had faded to that characteristic 'aqua blue' that natural indigo so often does (don't ask me why... I know all the arguments which say it shouldn't matter), with much less pronounced whiskering and honeycombing. Some people like it, some people don't. In the end, I chose the TH Straight, not to save money, but because I genuinely preferred the way they faded.

The TH Straight is also in theory available in non-wash (unlike the Zipangs which only come one-wash) but they didn't have any raw ones in stock (Naoki very kindly rang around to check), so I just got a 32 one-wash.

In Tokyo, I found the best place to see and try all the different Kapital jeans is at the "Kapital Legs" shop in Ebisu. It just specialises in trousers (pants to you Americans...), hence the name, and they have worn samples of most of their line.

Hey Takashi, thanks for the insight.

I too tried several pairs of the Zipangs at Kapital Legs. My brain is a bit addled from crossing the date line and several time zones, but as I recall, the waists were tiny compared to their tag size. eg. a 32" fit more like a 28-29". Yet, I would have prefered the cut of the legs to have remained as tagged.

Odd. Perhaps just a strange batch? I've had a couple of other independent reports with the same experience.

Anyway, the young lady there - is lovely, and the shop is a pearl and vice versa :)

Kapital items are usually unisex, and come in size scaled from 0 to 5. This is more or less about US XXS to L or XL. Typically 0 and 1 are for women, and I'm mostly US S at 5'9" and 142lbs and take size 2 for Kapital. I can call the stores for measurements and sizing advice. Below are links to rakuten shops stocking the brand, so those interested may want to feed the measurements through a translator and see who the sizing runs. Their denim usually have inseams of 33inches.

Kapital also has 100% hand-made line called "Kapital Redux". This line produces items according to different themes and concepts each month. Items are very limited in stock and expensive. Jeans will be around 70000yen, often more. I would personally still consider it a reasonable price judging from the amount of time and work put into making these garments. Items from Redux is not shown on the catalogue, but you could check it at the NEWS section on their website.

Ebisu is probably the best place to shop for Kapital, as it has 3stores all within few minutes walk from each other. It has been mentioned before, but Kapital Legs would be the best place for picking up their jeans/pants, they also have extensive stock on denim tops(shirts, jackets) and belt as well. I'm not sure if the brand is sold outside of Japan, though since few rakuten stores stock it I wouldn't be too surprised if they offer accounts to boutiques abroad as well.

I'm currently moving to Tokyo suburbs and the SS catalogue will take a while to upload at this moment. I will post here again once that's done.
