oh well i'm kind of through listening to really experimental stuff right now, completely obsessed with Mumdance and the "global bass" sound.

caught Digital Mystikz at the Roundhouse last night, was a 4-way battle with 4 different styles... Metalheadz, Soul II Soul, Trojan were in attendance as well. magnificently played by the dmz guys, some really old school sounds coming out, sat really well whenever it came on the back of Trojan's roots tunes.

put down a few ideas this afternoon, based on an opening theme from a sibelius symphony: SKETCH2

One of my favorite new electronic artists just took a dip in the dubsteppy pool, you can DL the whole album (Dubstomp) for free here: http://samples.bandcamp.com/

I'm not a huge fan of straight uk dubstep but this is doin it for me.

His other shit is more banger though, more lazer/dance/crunk type stuff.

Mount Kimbie & James Blake performing "Maybes" live. Really great. Just imagining all of that bouncing around the church walls...gives me chills.

i'll post this here b/c i don't know where it would fit better

http://92bpm.com/2010/03/secondhand-sureshots-free-preview.html

essentially the adventure of 4 distinguished diggers from Los Angeles, Ras G, Daedelus, Nobody and J-Rocc as we follow them unearthing gems, chopping up samples, with the one goal in mind: a fresh track. They have $5 and a whole afternoon.

worth every minute.

BRAINFEEDER sessions at Fabric tomorrow night, can't wait. FlyLo, Nosaj Thing, Daedelus, GLK, Dorian Concept... :)

jealous. the shit coming from the west coast has so much more potential and sounds way more interesting than the majority of dubstep these days.

i managed to find this whilst in london:

Dubstep has gotten boring as hell, but the stuff from the westcoast is no better.

Dillastep+bleeps. I said it.

disagree, apart from burials stuff (Which isnt really even dubstep), how many full dubstep albums have actually been good? I say a big fat zero.

FlyLo's 1983 and LA on the other hand were dope beginning to end (personal opinion of course), hes leading the way and doing what i believe to be legitametly different and original.

Its a pity really that the two scenes crossed because now dubstep is shitting up what could have possibly been something completely new.

k well, dubstep is more about the 12s, but even so:

The Bug - London Zoo (by far better than both burial albums)

ital tek - Cyclical

Martyn - Great Lengths

Clubroot - Clubroot

Falty DL - Love is a Liability

Neil Landstrumm - Bambaataa Eats His Breakfast / Lord For £39

Silkie - City Limits

this is off the top of my head, and what i've heard. Opposed to LA which was a giant leap from the mediocre 1983 (and tbh flylo seems to be headed back into mediocrity judging by the new tracks, still - early days)

everyone i know who like dubstep also like wonky and that lot. I just can't get into it, at all.

(personal opinion ofc)

textures, man, for me it's all about the textures. listen to flylo, prefuse, and i hear orchestras. listen to digital mystikz and i hear the fuzz on the bass playing off, against and subverting all the dub grooves. really don't care who does it better - there's something to learn from people on different sides of the world.

apart from the bug and clubroot (which i havent heard) i found most of these releases mediocre at best. I heard good things about the bug, so will check it out.

its just coming down to personal opinion right now. I find myself gravitating more towards rap and hip hop these days anyway, hence the appeal of 'dillastep' to me lol.

moving to london in a couple of months, so hopefully i'll be able to hear this shit as its intended to be heard instead of on headphones/at home
