And each pair costs less than 5 dollars to manufacture. The philanthropy aspect is nice, I guess, but it's mainly there to make the people who buy them feel better about themselves, which in turn drives up sales. The step margin they enjoy on each sale is why they made something like 4+ million (profit) on their first 100,000 pairs. It's just philanthropy for profits' sake, which I feel is wrong.

slightly twisted, the brand is actually not making most of that. The retailers get the better and of the deal. Once their volume drops (which it inevitably will), they'll be back to only employing interns again.
