Are cuffs going out of style?

The cuff is always in no matter how many people try the "stacked" look. Could Eddie Cochran, James Dean, and Marlon Brando be wrong? I didn't think so.

Hey everyone. First post!

Anyway, I think cuffing depend on the cut of the denim and your shoes, but mostly just how you feel. I cuff some days and bunch others with my New Standards. I cuff more when I'm wearing wider shoes, but usually bunch with slimmer sneakers or boots. I've done it the other way though and don't think it makes much of a difference. The only thing I don't like is when jeans are hemmed short so you can see socks when you sit.

well depends on a few factors for me. the inseam, if its really long ill let it bunch up. also the leg opening, im more inclined to cuff something bootcut than something straight. then it comes to the shoes and how they fall. sometimes it requires too much thought so i just leave them uncuffed, and they fray from contact.

shoes make a big difference for me, no one looks good walking on denim, so for smaller shoes- pegging, i think it looks great, and I learnt it off SF! Obviously with bigger shoes like skate shoes stacking it is what I do, it makes the bottom legs look slightly wider which looks better with big ass skate shoes.

Although When jeans are new I like to cuff normally to show some selvedge.

I don't think the cuff pants look have ever been mainstream in the first place since 1955. When walking down the street how many people do you actually see with cuffs or even turnups. So it follows that it can't really be out if it was never in. That being said, I am 5' 7" so I will probably cuff my jeans until I die because every pair I have is too long and I have no inclination to get them hemmed even if I knew where to get it done properly.

cuffing will never go out of style. the only thing is that a few years ago hipsters decided to start cuffing their jeans, and now that fad is fading, so it just seems like it's going out of style...when it's just going back to the way it always has been. not too many have ever cuffed, i think, because it's hard to pull off well and most people don't have either the jeans or the shoes to do it.

You might have a point there, Dr. Since the takedown by selvedge began I admit a non-selvedge cuff to me just looks a little off. Selvedge's tight look makes a sharper presentation. I wonder, however, if we weren't committed selvedgeists, if we'd even notice a non-selvedge cuff?

When I saw Social Distortion play last year, Johnny Two-Bags, the guitarist, was showing some crazy six inch cuffs and sick boots. Way old school punk.

whether cuffs are "in" or not, or look "cool" or not, i really don't like the look that cuffed jeans take on after you've worn them for awhile -- with the hard, straight crease (and oftentimes holes/rips) six inches above the hem. the hem is folded over 1.5 times, so it's a lot more resistant to wear than the bottom of the cuff -- keeps you jeans from disintegrating before their time.

I think cuffs are actually getting more mainstream now (and whether you think that means it's stylish is another story) because everyone is all about premium demin now and they want to show off their selvedge.

"Everyone" being like 3 people and the GQ style guy? There's slightly more selvedge offerings by "mainstream" companies and other ones have just starting focusing on what they already had but it's still quite a niche market.

As for cuffs, most people don't, some do and look stupid and some do and look great, it's all about what style you're going for and you sense of proportion (size of cuff, cut of jeans, shoes, tops, height)
