Thank you for the update on joyce warehouse. i'm glad they open mondays now. I was there last october and december. There were heaps of good stuff in october with dior hoome, jil sander, marni and junya watanabe etc etc but there was very little in december.

As with the jeans shop. landy was right Take 5 is by far the most committed denim shop in HK but they specialises in japanese denim (the superdenim crown in this forum) such as warehouse, japanese evisu (not european models), sugar cane, samurai, yen jeans etc. Not fashion jeans. tehy are on Granville Road but on the first floor. check Take5.com for information and address. There is another thread about "best denim stores in HK" in this forum. check it out. japanese denim is about 30% higher than if you purchase from Japan. so a stopover in Japan for those diehards!!! may be a good idea.

next door to Take 5 is a very small shop that sells Bape and some neighborhood etc. Many of the interesting denim places are actually on upper floors of buildings without a shop front (much like japan) and they could be hard to find.

Levis shop in causeway carries LVC with some japanese ones as well. There is also a chain called Original 1001 which carries some evisu and omnigod and a HK brand called RMC. They are located near Take 5 at end of Granville Road and another shop on welllington street central.

Hi!

1. Darn! No Marni and DH when I went there in Aug.

2. Looking for the Japanese Levis as well. Heard its called the black label. Any idea whether they are good? Would pop down Take 5 next time.

3. As for Bape, went passed their big store in Central on a Saturday morning and I was stunned to see a long queue outside. I really dont know whats the attraction for Bape.

4. BTW when do the F/W sale start for most shops? Is it after Chinese New Year? I am more interested in their last call sale where they slash prices by 50% or more.

Any idea when Prada/Gucci or even LV have their sale?

The sale usually starts mid December to just after christmas for most places including Prada, Joyce and Lane crawford, IT etc. It usually runs till chinese new year. The prices at its lowest probably mid january onwards and usually after chinese new year. However CNY is later in Feb 07 so would probably not coincide with the sales.

There is japanese levis and japanese LVC. japanese LVC would be selvedge denim and of very hig quality and washes as well. check out the japanese LVC site. there is also the red loop label, black label, N3BP, blue star etc. some are japanese release only but made in China. The LVC are Made in Japan.

No one so far mention Seibu in Admiralty (central). they are not owned by japanese anymore but do have some interesting stuff like Blue blood jeans, dirk schonberger, paul smith, helmut lang, etc

Damn! Looks like I will be going HK again soon. Maybe December this year.

Went pass Seibu but missed it. Heard it has tons of stuff too.

So the Levis Japanese LVCs are the best? Would give it a look next time.

Whats the Japanese LVC website. The one I got says its under construction.

from my experience. there are massive sales BEFORE chinese new year. its a tradition to wear something new on chinese new years day. after that, sales don't happen until the middle fo the summer or so.

OK. So when would the massive sales start, as in 50% or more or their so called last call sales?

Need to book my airtickets and hit the shops when EVERYONE or ALMOST EVERYONE are having these sales.

www.lvc.jp. The site is up and running. D-mop in HK sometimes sells japanese lvc. Levis shop usually sells the amercian ones, unfortunately they are now being made in Romania.

Landy is right the final sell is before and just after chinese new year. But in 2007 CNY is later in Feb and it collides with new season stock. So mid to late january would likely to see the major reductions. However if your size is fairly common and generally sell out early, it may be another consideration.

Hi!

You are right. Went to D-Mop but didnt explore the jeans because I was and still am a LVC novice.

Looks like I have to go mid Jan. Hopefully you guys can update us here on the final reductions in HK. My size is fairly common but I still managed to find stuff to buy. Like I said, I am not super picky and fussy about what I buy.

I will talk about Lane Crawford Outlet store now.

It located in one of the floors of Horizon Plaza in Ap Lei Chau.

Decor: Thin cheap carpet, white painted walls. Very underwhelming despite them occupying 1 entire floor of the building, I think.

When you enter, to your right are all the men's wear, keep going clockwise, you will see the ladies' wear and after that, will be the home furnishings and knick knacks.

For men's wear, its separated by size. Each rack will carry the more common sizes. In case that excites you, dont! Because there are very very few items on each rack or even in the entire store.

In case the outlet gives you the wrong impression, please note Lane Crawford actually have 4 big branches all over Hong Kong and are one huge department store chain selling clothes and furnishing. Harvey Nichols looks more posh but Lane Crawford aint no slouch.

And for some reason, Lane Crawford hires some of the most gorgeous actress look alike sales assistant I have ever seen. Please check out Pacific Place.

Anyway, I digress. Lane Crawford was having a sale when I went there, which I reckon it would have stopped by now.

Brands: Miu Miu and some other not so overwhelming brands. Sorry I forgot what brands. Didnt buy anything from there.

They have a small selection of jeans including G-Star and RMC. A slightly bigger selection of shoes and ties and other shirts on the shelves. A bit disappointing really.

Again, impressions are misleading. A trip to any of the Lane Crawford stores will show you they are choke full of labels. Joyce have many concessions there and they also carry brands like Prada. Brands I recall include Commes, Viktor & Rolf, D&G, McQ and many others.

They also have a denim section with Evisus and other American jeans. And their shoes selections are good. During the sale, tons of shoes were strewn all over the racks, including Mius Mius, Pumas (Mihara/McQueen) and some Prada.

So where are these goods at the outlet? Maybe the concessions took back some of them but for the other labels?

Prices: A bit hazy about them but I recall at least 50%.

Crowd: Very very little. Which is hardly surprising considering the stock they have.

Service: Unobtrusive but then hardly surprising considering how few customers there are.

Overall: I expect Lane Crawford to do so much better. I would have reckoned them jammed pack to the rafters with stuff but instead there are very very few things worth getting. They have a few more mid market labels if that floats your boat. I think SPACE ranks much better than them. But if you are in the neighbourhood, just pop in and take a look.

Hi!

No I have not done so in the directory, and I am do not know how to go about doing it.

December should be a good time to visit provided the sales have started by then.

This is my last review on Hong Kong factory outlets. I cannot profess to have been to all. I notice on some websites that there are some other outlets like Nike and Dickson (which carries the cheaper Balenciaga, Kenneth Cole and Polo etc) which I did not have the opportunity to go to. Hopefully someone else would post on these.

Anyway, my review would be limited to 3 outlets which are quite centrally located but in my view not worth going out of the way to. Will provide the maps later on.

1. IT Sale Shop in Silvercord

Basically you cant miss this. Hard Rock Cafe is in Silvercord, which is in Canton Road which is a stone's throw from TST MTR station.

I have already described this in the past and to just briefly recap. A big but not cavernous store. You enter through the main door and you can see everything.

IT carries tons of brands, some of their inhouse brands as well. You can check out www.ithk.com provided they update us on what brands they carry.

Clothes are jammed packed on the racks and in the trolleys. With some shoes at the left of the entrance. Mostly are ladies and I cannot detect a discernible pattern in their arrangements.

For men's attire, I found I think between 10 to 20 pieces in a place that must have 1000 pieces of attire. I was lead to it by the sales assistants. Some D & G jeans only.

Hopefully others will find better buys here than me. Sooo disappointing.

2. MOD Sale Shop

Darn! Hope I got the name right. This is further up from Meridian Shopping Centre. This is the touristy area of TST. You can see it after walking pass Agnes B, Esprit. If you walk more than 5 min, you probably missed it.

They have staff handing up flyers and its in the basement of the shopping centre. A big lighted display at the left displays brands they carry. Turns out most of them are not in the store. Tourist trap you think? No.

When I enter, the right side is for men's and left is for ladies. They occupy the entire basement. Funny thing is Hong Kong love to have stores in the basement. You enter through a main door, and you have to walk down a flight of steps to look at their wares? Maybe these can double as typhoon shelters?

The staff are well attired (in uniforms I think) and the joint looked like a nice upmarket boutique. Not as upmarket as Dior Homme or Giorgio but still very nice, with nice carpets and nice shelves and racks.

I recall they carry Dolce and Cavalli and Ferre? They have shoes, bags and men's wear.

I was not keen on these brands so I did not investigate further. Anyway I was suffering from wallet fatigue. But I noticed the same Cavalli belt which was being sold in Lane Crawford too, during their season ending sale, not outlet sale.

Not sure whether they are fakes but dont look like it. Maybe locals can let us know?

Worth exploring if you got time to spare especially since its just outside TST MTR.

3. Milan or Paris or what you call it shop.

These are a chain of shops that sell handbags. Usually consignment items. Much have been said on the authencity ot their wares.

Chanced upon this. This is also at TST but just outside the TST MTR station right at the southern tip of TST. Very very far from MOD.

This branch have bags and clothes and ties. I went in and saw some Prada ties. Saw one that was last season. Recognised it because I have the same tie but in different colour. Gosh! The price was US$120.00 after discount! Much much more costly than SPACE.

Went up the stairs and glanced at the wares. Exited the side door and saw this shop have a outlet store! So remember: you enter through the main door, walk up the stairs, out the side exit and you can see the outlet store. Its the only store in the corridor. Or you can walk up the side entrance direct to the outlet store.

This outlet store is depressing. I wont be caught dead wearing the stuff. Think they have guccis but it was some loud and brash guccis. Not sure about the prices. The sales staff were more interested in discussing their personal problems. Hey! Everyone have problems!

This joint have a very very touristy feel to it. With white shelves etc etc. Give it a shot if you got nothing to do.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Will try to get the maps and post later.

Made a quick weekend trip out to Hong Kong last weekend and of all the worthy purchases I made, it had to be the black samurais SB5K BK over at take5 on the Kowloon side!

And with the mentioning of the superfuture discount, I received a 30% discount! Just wanted to thank all the supurfuture heads/dorks for the priceless information and will begin the soaking process so that the jeans don't slice my right testicle off.

Fa Yueng Street over in Mongkok is a tennis shoe heaven. I almost shitted in my pants but came out empty handed as the Vans Chukas I wanted were completely sold out.

Oh well...

Did you managed to see the Marc Jacobs' Silver Vans?

Asked the Marc boutiques and they have no idea what I was talking about.

you're not going to gain attention going to the hottest club and giving your best 'magnum' look. HK modelling and entertainment industry is all about nepotism and who you know. you're going to have to network around and hope to get a referral.

go to lankweifong just to pick up some hot chicks who are beginning their modelling careers. if you're really looking at modelling in hk, then i suggest you make some connections before you hit the place, send them some photos, let them know you're gonna be around. cause unless you're some super hotz d00dz like fam0us, then you're not gonna get shit by being around, they don't have time to waste on randoms. that said though, last time i was there my female friend's boyfriend got randomly picked up to do a unpaid photoshoot, with chances to get into a modelling agency and a career out of it. nothing came from it, i think the photographer just wanted to check out his boobays.

Thanks for all the comments.

Can you guys give me a name of someone whom you consider to be really good looking working in HK either in modelling or acting. I've googled alot of pages and seen some pictures but don't know how reputable the firms are.

The reason I ask is I just want to get an idea of what is considered 'good looking'. I meet the physical specifications in terms of height, weight, build etc but just the 'look' I am not too sure of.

The agency I'm with in Australia does no work overseas so it's very hard to gauge what my chances are of just packing up and heading straight to hk. Also there is not much work for asian models in Brisbane. I've received alot of compliments for the way I look but it's not sufficient to pay for a one way flight to HK.

PS: I'm not gay (Not that there's anything wrong with that)
