well, those were two Euro Gs which works out about 3,000 CAD, but still havn't made too much of a dent.

I stayed at a hostel for a week while I looked at apartments. The Canadiana, it's right down town, about 20 bucks a night, super clean and safe. Although if you;re willing to spend more i think you can get your own en suite room.

I'd recommend staying as downtown as possible.i originally hoped to spend about a hundred less on rent than i am, but it's so worth it to be so central.

did you find a casino job yet?!

nah i cant imagine finding a casino job. ill probably end up working in some shitty call center or begging for change after 6 months. even still, living on the streets in toronto is probably better than having a home in charlottetown lol.

+1 for the advice on living on the subway line...otherwise your life will suck. Keep posting potential apartment locations on here and we can tell you if the area is decent or not.

this looks like a bargain

this looks really ideal as well

and i know this location is sexy as hell but its only a 1 br. for the same place in a 2 bedroom, how much more should i be expecting to pay in rent. 200-300 more?

First two are in/near the village, so that's not the best area, but it's close to everything, and will have the most options. They're basically in those ugly 30-floor skyscrapers that you see everywhere (here).

With the last one, you're paying to be that close to the UofT campus.

I fine with living a skyscraper. It would be cool for a bit because it's foreign to me.

I suppose. Those buildings aren't the nicest you'll find, but are the easiest for sure. Keep in mind though - the larger the building, the more neighbours you have (bad). Either way though, no one keeps their first apartment when moving here for the first time...take whatever you can find, don't sign a lease if you don't have to, and then learn the area you'd like to live in.

1st one is in the part of town thatmost people move to when they land, it gets old quick but its a great place to learn the city from. weirdo central, though.

2nd place is in the ryerson ghetto and ive been in a few apartments on that street and they are grimey as fuck. that being a basemnt id say pass on it cause its probably infested.

3rd one is ideal location for student. great area but expensive.

I'm looking to do the same. From a city of 300,000 to Toronto.

I am paying 825$ a month here for a 2 bedroom. How much is the living cost there?

So my friend who I was supposed crash for a couple of weeks with has moved out of Toronto and I am scheduled to arrive on September 12th, looking to move in for October 1st.

My roomate to be, is staying with this girl he knows parents in Burlington until we get a place. The big problem is I don't have a place to stay from the 12th or slightly later until October 1st. Who has some ideas for me. Hostels suck and Hotels are too expensive and I think the odds of me finding a sublet for 2 weeks are probably pretty low.

I don't think I've ever worked for minimum wage, but I'm currently working as a Texas Hold'Em dealer at the entertainment center here. I don't think there are any similar positions in the downtown Toronto area so I'm not sure what I would be doing for work.

Isn't woodbine like a 20 minute drive outside toronto? get a shitty car and apply there.

Are there underground pokerrooms I have a shot at getting a job in? That would be fucking sick. I'm extreeemely qualified hahaha.

I read that as Pokemon rooms and I was both sad at the fact this would exist, and excited at the possibilities.

Woodbine doesn't have a pokerroom. If they did I would be all over it.

The apartment looks great but its for rent for September 1st and I probably can't move in until the 15th at the earliest. I sent an email out anyway, waiting on a response.

I have no job, no apartment and no place to stay. I have lots of money saved but at this rate it's going to dry up fast. No idea where I'm sleeping tonight probably a hotel. I thought I was going to have a little more wiggle room with my accomodations, and I was under the impression I was going to be given contact info for a job opportunity. It's pretty hard to line up an apartment when you don't have a job/address/place to live. I've been kind of a burden to the people of Toronto so far so I may just hang in a hotel for a couple of days and probably fly home.

There are hostels, but I'd rather send my money than risk getting scabies or some shit. I'm pretty stressed but all of this is out of my control so I'm just going to take it in stride. Pretty bummed but I really don't think Toronto is going to start slapping me in the face with solutions to my problems.

okay, no hate. but sorry if the red carpet doesnt fall in front of you on arrival. if that bit about the job was aimed at me then your lucky im still trying to make it happen for you. james has done you a huge solid, and im about to do you another but if you wanna act like a victim we could all the save the favours for someone with more patience. youve been here two days. relax, guy. ill get you a number to call by the end of tomorrow about that job and possibly get you a couch to sleep on. you showed up during the cities craziest week and consider yourself fortuante to have even one person bending their hectic schedules to accomodate you. you actually have a few people trying to help you here, so that being real lucky. these are strangers who know you through text. ease back and be willing to compromise and you might get a head start handed to you.
