Supermusic: Soundtrack To Your Day

Recommended Posts

Scum is a horrible gimmick, but I can't find that out unless I listen to their music.

Berzerker never have changed their sound, but they basically redeemed themselves

as a band for all history with their cover of Carcass' "Corporal Jigsore Quandary",

which features the fastest bpm double-kick drum beat in the history of music. Sure,

they're triggered drums, but it still counts.

I must, however, disagree with you on TVOTR. Name another band that sounds exactly like them, honestly. I think it's pretty much impossible. And sure, that fact may owe a lot to the vocals, but that's crucial. I wouldn't swap out TVOTR for Clap Your Hands Say Yeah or whatever other band from Brooklyn (ugh.) is currently making hipsters bust nuts.

People can love their music, for sure, but I expected more people like you to populate this board. You think Marquee Moon is exciting, you like the Libertines, but, you've also been listening to Fred Frith and Steve Lacy, two favorites of mine. There just seems to be a certain normalization of peoples' tastes on the board that I didn't expect.

Currently listening to:

1919 - Complete

Excellent and little-known post-punk/1st-wave goth band with a starker

rhythm section than all the bands name-checked by current indie darlings.

well, I guess if we're going to try to out-elite people and act like other people have pedestrian taste, I've recently listened to:

Arvo Pärt - De Profundis

Asa-Chang & Junray - Tsu Gi Ne Pu

a million Atom Heart albums

Coil - The Remote Viewer

Electric Wizard - Dopethrone

Martijn de Kleer - So Close Yet So Far Out

Pan Sonic - Aaltopiiri

Pete Namlook & Burhan Õçal - Sultan

Soma - The Inner Cinema

Speedy J - A Shocking Hobby

... and so on and so forth ...

anyway, I got tired of acting holier than thou because of diverse music taste a while ago. I'm willing to bet pretty much everyone posting in this thread honestly enjoys the music they're listening to, and that's what matters.

Why even argue over such shitty music?

And television boring? Hah! Verlaine and Loyd are guitar gods.

The Jam - Billy Hunt

De La Soul - Talkin' Bout Hey Love

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - I Turn Into

Bill Fay - Backwoods Maze

The Smiths - Big Mouth Strikes Again (Live)

Talking Heads - Lifetime Piling Up

Guided By Voices - Glad Girls

Pavement - Box Elder

Palace - The Brut Choir

So hard to say. They are truly musical and artistic geniuses. I definitely preferred their later stuff, though, starting with Time Machines and Musick to Play in the Dark... but I love Love's Secret Domain, of course, and I dig the hell out of Remote Viewer (too bad it was such a limited release)...

RIP Jhonn.

lately it's been a lot of cover songs. it puts me in a summer mood to hear some old classics re-invented.

uncle tupelo - gimme gimme gimme (BF)

my morning jacket - suspicious minds (elvis)

lucero - kiss the bottle (jawbreaker)

and, my official summer fun-times rock'n'roll jam, hands-down no-contest

ramones - have you ever seen the rain (good ol' CCR)

today was a slow, rainy day.

therefore,

Iron & Wine - Our Endless Numbered Days was my soundtrack.

It's like snuggling music.

I been rappin' for about 17 years..

I don't write my stuff anymore,

I just kick it from my head you know what I'm sayin I can do that.

No disrespect... but that's how I am.

I tend to prefer their earlier, more industrial-leaning stuff. Scatology and Horse Rotorvator I'd die for...as for their later stuff, Moon's Milk In Four Phases blows my mind... Coil are in my personal top ten bands/musicians of all time.

Today I've been listening to:

Erik Satie - Piano Works

Albert Ayler - Spiritual Unity

Television Personalities - Don't Cry Baby... It's Only A Movie

and, after hearing a song from it in American Apparel, was moved to Love - Forever Changes a couple times through.
