Just discovered the J1A-S's gravity pockets don't have zipper access on the sleeve.

 

Slightly disappointed by that. It's not quite as easy to load it from the cuff. 

 

Still works pretty cool though. I can manage to catch my phone about half the times I try to deploy it, so I might stick to using it for my wallet instead.

oh no i'm keeping it. despite being a little let down, i fucking love the jacket.

the gravity pockets are pretty easy to use for me. only difficulty is the snap button resistance to unlock. but i guess that's needed to keep shit from falling out easily.

Let down because of the (deceptively) simple construction and execution? That's the genius of it.

It's not just the snap button, the entire sleeve pattern is designed to work with the gravity pocket; notice all that extra elbow room? It's not just for ease of articulation. It's part of the jutsu.

^for me it has to be the execution. and i think you are right about it being deceptively simple. because to me, it's just a hooded hardshell that many outdoor/techwear brands offer. but paying close attention to the construction (especially at the shoulder and pit area), you really are able to appreciate the design a whole lot better. there was talk about the design of the front pockets. perhaps i don't know enough about garment construction to really appreciate the thought behind the design. to me, it really isn't groundbreaking. i've experienced the catch design before so it's nothing out of the ordinary (but maybe uniquely distinct on a shell?) but i do agree that the placement of the front pockets are perfect. i haven't paid any attention to the elbows working inline with the gravity pockets though. my brick of a phone simply drops without effort due to the weight haha.

i think if i had purchased the j1a-s or one of the j38 variants as my first acronym piece, i would feel more satisfied. as those being the embodiment of acroynm's design. whereas the j32-gt is more of a piece that offers a little taste on what acronym has to offer. perfect for acronym noobs like myself.

But, apart from the gravity pockets, which I knew won't have much use for, I do appreciate the other features, especially the escape zip and 3d-collar-hoodie-stowaway-featurey-thing, these two features I can see using often, the latter mainly for aesthetic reasons (and wind protection). I also knew more advance jackets weren't for me, I wanted a more subtle styling, and have waited some time till the J32 showed up. As for construction and comfort, it really does feel great and well made, and I guess that's the most important bit. Not all the features are useful, but if it wears great, and the quality is agreeable to the price you paid, I would say that's a keeper right there. And yes, the fabric is loud, which might be an operation hazard in your ninja ops, might want to switch on the active noise cancelling array.

I'm starting to think that different features appeal to different people, but since most jackets have most of the features there's something for everyone.

 

For instance, I never use the escape zip. For me it's always faster to simply unzip it the regular way, but I think it's awesome that so many people enjoy using it and it's definitely something that I wish all my jackets had.

 

For me, the most useful feature is definitely the jacketsling. It's just about the most convenient way to carry a jacket without wearing it, perfect for climates with changeable weather.

It's not so much that I need the carabiner, it's just that for that price there's no reason they shouldn't include one.
