damn, you did all that sleuthing just for me. are you married( you dont seem to be the type to fancy boys too much, but salaami can be very persuasive periodically) ill even throw in a shuttle loom as a dowry! but seriously, not to be a jerk-off, but this makes me even more confused, cause it says that they now say"osaka". so why do mine say"us? from what im reading, they shouldnt say "us" unless they are a bit older than i can assume by the lot#10...i bought them february this year.

Well - it's always possible that the did'nt change the patch..I had a pair of 510XX 19oz - they said it as well - and I bought them in 2006...

Before you ask - they've been sold on a while ago...and yes, the shuttle loom sounds tempting - but I am not cheating on the father of my monkeys....

beatle, i love you for the info, but i think we want to know what the AI actually stands for, since most natural indigo jeans have the AI @ the end of the model name, regardless of the brand. forgive my ignorance...

Well I can't say for sure what the AI stands for in their products but AI is the flower used in traditional Japanese indigo dyeing. AI and Indigo are basically the same thing but they are indeed different flowers/dyes. REAL Japanese AI dyeing is done by hand and is not rope dyed. It is insanely expensive but there are a few companies doing it and I don't think REAL Japanese AI dyeing jeans exist under 40,000 yen.. just isn't possible. The technique is called "hon ai zome", eternal and tsurugiya do some I believe. The problem with alot of what comes out of Japan as 100% indigo is that in Japan all types of indigo colored dyes are called indigo.. I have real doubts as to the real purity of it. I have been doing a little research on this so hopefully I will know more soon.

The new Samurai AI-N is definitely pure indigo, no chemicals or anything... and yes they are rope dyed.

Um.. and how do you know this? It doesn't say so anywhere on the Samurai site. Do you know who makes their fabric or what dye house is used?? I'm not saying there are not, I'd just like to know myself. (the purity of the dye that is, not that they are rope dyed which i know they are)

Ha ha.... labor more expensive here?? I doubt that. Japan is not China... and the Japanese do not have the extensive 'latin' workforce that U.S. factories use. Ever been to a denim factory downtown?

If anything with the lower value of the yen of recent it may be a wash...

well... the factory would be right in the center of Manhattan... so i think labor would be higher.

nope... a factory in NY where ralph lauren and marc jacobs have thier real high end stuff made. i know the guy who runs it.

What I meant was that labor costs for the big factories here in L.A. (true religon, armani, 7 etc etc) are most likely cheaper than labor costs in Japan. I have been there as well as ones in Japan (Hiroshima/Okayama).
