strangely all of my friends like the other album, dead cities, red seas, & lost ghosts better.

i really like how cheesy and saturated the synths feel on before the dawn heals us. always reminds me of blade runner.

glad to see quite the few people resonating similar tastes (glitchy autechre, aphex twin, drone khanate and sunn0))), liking the finntroll video, city of caterpillar, chain of strength, red sparrowes, joni mitchell, go team.)

..........

really been into death from above 1979 of late. can't stop listening to their bloc party cover, Luno.

in my opinion, dead cities... is a far superior album to before the dawn heals us... though i say this probably for the same reasons you say you like before the dawn heals us better (cheesier and more saturated). I find dead cities to be emotionally powerful, while before the dawn heals us is a little hollow in that respect. Apparently one of the 2 members of m83 quit the project between the two albums, so before the dawn heals us was basically just a solo project for the remaining member

I've been going through a lot of J Dilla's stuff since he died. He made such great beats.

Donuts (which is definitely worth checkin out btw.)

Fantastic II by Slum Village (it's a shame that T3 and Baatin are such wack rappers)

Like Water for Chocolate by Common

Voodoo by D'Angelo (my favourite record of all time, you gotta check it out)

Mama's Gun by Erykah Badu

Also, have 'all heard Hard Groove and Strength by Roy Hargrove? Funky shit!

yeah, i definitely see the side and appeal of dead cities too. it's definitely a great album.

i think some of dawn heals us is empty because of the heavy handedness. there isn't that emotional rapport but instead this need to try and bridge things using the ridiculous amounts of synth and the vocals/voices. that really really tears it apart for some people.

been in a folk mood today, the spring air and losing an hour, i guess it's nice to have some slower, mellower music than my usual fare.

devendra banhart

joni mitchell

joanna newsom

also saw some really great neo-folk experimental stuff last night

mike tamburo (a local who runs a label with tusk lord and a few other greats)

fursaxa (solo act with multiple tracks recorded and played back. uses instruments ranging from african talking drums, rain sticks, slide whistles, and her voice)

and the crowning act-- Jack Rose of the pelts. freaking amazing steel guitar neo-folk experimental stuff. atmospheric... makes you feel like you crossed an arabian desert bareback on a wild stallion.

also saw municipal waste and baroness that night.

RazorxProduction Killing Sound

The dirtiest, grimiest, most fucked up ragga/dancehall tracks in the universe.

And once you're done, pop on disc two for some acid-tripped up remixes that

make Hell sound like a holiday.

It's basically 10 of those singles plus 10 versions as a double cd,

there were about half of them on the CD that I never managed to

grab when they first dropped, so it was worth it to me. Plus, the

versions are so sick... definitely worth it.

was a musician back in the day. was awful.

sybaritical-- battles man. booyah.

fixoid-- i like kenji kawaii's work on ghost in the shell the most. avalon was pretty decent.

does anyone know city of caterpillar? been really diggin malady of late, i enjoy it's differences from city of caterpillar.

anyone check out envy? my friend said they're going to drop a new album in japan this summer. also eastern youth is touring the west coast. if you're around in march, check'em out. wonderful heartfelt 'emotional' punk rock. those dudes have been around forever.

if you like city of caterpillar check out one of the dudes other projects... Ghastly City Sleep,

also check out Pygmy Lush...

both on myspace
