What are your jeans doing today?

sadly for all of us you are completely wrong. "we" (i would like to refer to "we" as "they" actually) only carry swedish brand dr denim jeans, a small selection of naked and famous as well as a few unpopular models of edwin (think weird furry iron-on-like patch as the leather patch) and a pair of KMWs which are too huge for asians. the market in singapore is too saturated with nudie wearers. not many people are willing to pay prices of up to 250USD for a pair of jeans that they dont know much about. nudie is god-like for everyone here, the bigger and more prominent the arcs, the better. also, skinnies are the only things people wear. of course there are a select few who are different but that remains few. is this the same everywhere else?

My sentiments exactly! Whats worse is that they try their very best not to stretch out their jawnz too much so as to preserve the 'rawness' of their fucking nudies. Jeans are worn to be wrecked in your own kinda way!

I'll trade the ugly superdistressed D&G/DSquared kids aspire to around here for your pristine Nudies anytime.

The sad thing is that this stuff is at least as expensive as the real denim that is available without problems in my town (2 shops that sell SDA/SC/IH/FH and stuff plus a bunch that sell LVC).

Didn't get these organized until just now.

I got out of the city for my older bro's bachelor party:

CIMG0110.jpg

I was too drunk to take photos the first night. But the next day, after an aggressive boot-and-rally campaign, we went to the beautiful Finger Lakes Distilling showroom.

It was full of barrels,

IMGP6366.JPG

Brown liquor,

IMGP6374.JPG

Bubbling fermentation tanks,

IMGP6381.JPG

And dead bugs.

IMGP6368.JPG

We got to sample straight from the barrels,

IMGP6363.JPG

And have dinner with Brian McKenzie, the President of Finger Lakes Distilling, and Thomas Earl McKenzie, the Master Distiller. (They are not related).

IMGP6461.JPG

Thomas Earl's Family has been distilling booze for 100 years. He's the first of them to do so legally. AWESOME. This is TE:

IMGP6444.JPG

And this is Brian, looking presidential:

IMGP6475.JPG

Everything we sipped was great. Their rye whiskey, in its second batch, was really phenomenal. We left with twelve bottles of it.

Then we drove (carefully) back to the cabin and had a nice little campfire. Gotta love glowing embers.

CIMG0112.jpg

The next day I went exploring and made some friends.

I didn't know millipedes came this big, this far north.

CIMG0120.jpg

Bufo Americanus, perhaps the world's best amphibian. American [toad] and proud of it.

CIMG0145.jpg

And then we went back to NYC which, as great as it is, still smells like hot trash. I would much prefer to smell fermenting grains all day. Oh well.

Some more shots and details from this place. This place was filled with some of the coolest junk that i've ever seen in one spot. it is attached to the back of a large salvage yard, but is basically just a series of old blown out buildings strewn out between an industrial street and an old abandoned ADM plant along the major train yard in Saint Paul. one of my favorite places to go hang out and shoot. thought I would share it with you all!

mostly they are places i notice from the road while driving, or have seen while wandering, some are local legends. most of them are on or close to railroad tracks, which i use to get around without having to deal with fences / walls, other things that keep me out of said sites...actually most of these places are big enough that you can see them from a ways off, and i just head that way, encountering more than I bargained for on my way there. Since i've really been focusing on the decaying, run down elements of my city, i'm quite amazing at just how much space, how many of these places there are! there was a while where I felt like I would quickly run out of subject matter for this stuff and move on to some other genre, but I keep finding more and more interesting stuff to keep me interested in documenting these places.

thanks as always for the kind words!

Im currently spending a month in pakistan which is currently an insane mess right now. Daily terrorist attacks, 20million people displaced by the floods and the nations grain surplus destroyed, constant power failure. The insane imbalance of wealth between the rich and the poor has led to a situation where 1% of society lives in a bubble of privilege and influence. No one is affected by the insanity in the country, ive spent 1/12th of my life here and today was the first time i ever walked on the streets. Drive out of my house and the streets are filled with honda accords and land cruisers (cars are insanely expensive here, honda accord=140,000USD Land Cruiser=250,000 USD) drive two blocks and poverty is everywhere

Is there a rail-to-trail movement up there? On the east coast a lot of old railroad tracks are converted into hiking/jogging/mountain biking trails. It's a cool reduce/reuse strategy, but I bet it wouldn't be good for your photography--too many white folk in jogging shorts.

Hello All ! This morning, Mom and I took a walk around Lake Merritt (the crown jewel of Oakland). Lake Merritt is where Oakland-ers congregate for a stroll, a run, or just hanging out. It's usually always crowded, even during (rainy) winter-time.

The next two photos show typical Oakland houses. Most homes in Oakland were built in the early 1900s. Victorian-style homes are plentiful in Oakland, Berkeley and San Francisco.

4891191203_351ab19477_z.jpg

4891186607_92c02d62d3_z.jpg

The reason this couple looks bundled up is because, surprisingly in the middle of August, it's a bit chilly -- especially during the morning. The one on the left is wearing an interesting hat -- shaped like a bear's head. I can wear Iron Heart all-year-round in Oakland without difficulty...and I can almost always justify wearing a jacket -- the weather is so moderate here.

4891181609_8ee4c491bc_z.jpg

Oakland's Whole Food Market -- right by Lake Merritt. Whole Foods is an upscale grocery chain in the US. Located in "affluent" urban areas, the food available at Whole Foods is organic, very high quality and costly. It ain't cheap to shop there, which is why people often call it "Whole Paycheck". Trust me, feeding a family on Whole Foods foodstuff makes Japanese denim look inexpensive ! I met a young German man (from Hanover) on my recent flight to Boston -- he had spent the past year in the US and exclaimed that, yes ! he loved Whole Foods (who doesn't ?), but only that such high caliber food is available in Europe as "default", and at reasonable, affordable prices for all.

Morning scene at Lake Merritt:

Oakland hosts a wildly popular art n' jazz festival every year -- I've lived here 7 years and am ashamed to admit that I've never even been once. Maybe this year is the year ?

4891764892_5dec185e61_z.jpg

I've been informed by Mom and Sister that I'm seeing "Eat, Pray and Love" with them today. Sister and family are visiting Oakland for the day. I'm a typical chick...I like chick flicks. I hated the movie "Inception" (along with most women I know who saw it).

4891154525_bf10635fd4_z.jpg

Me and Lacy at the local Farmer's Market. I'm wearing : Lululemon Scuba Hoodie (I LOVE THESE -- I own a few), random tie-dye T, Iron Heart 301s, and Sperry Topsiders.

4891756762_3611535216_z.jpg

That "For Lease" sign reflects the sad state of affairs in the American economy -- affecting many urban retail establishments and eateries. People just ain't buyin' shit, and they ain't eatin' out -- causing local neighborhood establishments to shutter. Is America's prosperity on an irreversible decline ? I sure hope not...but only time will tell. Here's me with my mommy (whose signature fashion style is "bohemian hippie chick").
