Sorry for the crappy camera phone pics, been forgetting to bring my real camera around.

Hung out on my friends roof the other night.

Went up to Concord, NH where my mom works to see her. Got some food at an ice cream/bbq barn. Not the best food but she used to bring me there for ice cream all the time when I was little.

Stopped by the borders after to read some books and magazines. Grabbed a pic of a ridiculously cute magazine about knitting dolls and stuff.

out to the Minneapolis riverfront today, the old Main St. side. had a beer, watched dozens of mopes on Segways riding around, took in some great scenery, then it got hot. turned out to be 90 degrees, so we sweated our asses off, wasn't so much fun!

I was in a B+W mood today, haven't done any monochrome stuff since winter but decided that was the way to go with washed out mid-day shots.

aaaaand the first one is color, haha. saw this sticker in the window of the Soap Factory. a local artist joint here in MPLS. which houses real cool exhibits in what used to be the National Purity Soap Company.

and i broke a rule of photography, my arm and fingers are still in the shot. my polarizer wouldn't remove the reflection, and i'm too lazy to edit it out at this point.

you've all seen this location before. but i've actually never been down by the river where all of the tailraces exit from under the old mill, a bunch of twisted steel and blown out stone from structures that were destroyed when the mill blew up.

4933325268_215a361189_z.jpg

some of these support structures were twisted like shoestrings, pretty awesome power if you ask me.

4932732867_cd912436c0_z.jpg

this is looking up through the levels of ruins toward the street level above. the North Star Blanket company sign on the right side.

4933325092_c1b6d4fd7a_z.jpg

tailrace outlet that leads back to the Mississippi...

4932733051_7991e80020_z.jpg

Not sure if we have cormorants in Minnesota, but if we do, well here they are. with a crane as well.

4932731683_031c3833cc_z.jpg

Minneapolis from under the stone arch bridge.

4933327562_312c5a3512_z.jpg

Went to Tuggs Tavern, one of my favorite spots. had happy hour as well so we threw back a 6 pack of Nordeast for only $14

4932730831_8bd2395fd8_z.jpg

minimalist abstract lawn chair art, lol

4932729423_2c36da4164_z.jpg

and back to the car over the stone arch bridge, looking down river at the NSP power plant and 35W bridge

Z, you make me want to be a better Minneapolitan.

Funny about that Duluth-Superior shirt. I went to high school there in the ancient long-ago past. It was cutie-pie haafu central at the time...I swear the people had a serious affinity for that place. But I didn't really spot any on my last few working vacations up there. The personal irony is there are now a couple of restaurants, whereas I remember none in the past. They're okay places if you prefer well-made street type food.

Haha- true for all of us, no? ! Good stuff - must spread!

From yesterday - left the office early to grab some time with my little girl.

Hiked a rail trail, hit up playgrounds, explored Edwards Gardens, watched nature, got good eats, and had a cool thrift store find ( see LVC thread!). What more could a girl want!!

lol....actually - the card in itself- it feels kind of precious to receive a "real" post card - with emailing and things it has become a rare gesture...

Its crazy how little real mail people send these days. Makes me appreciate that me and a close group of friends who live far apart still exchange letters a couple times a year.

Today I went to Corfe Castle, an 11th century stone castle that was a royal fortress for 600 hundred years, until it was laid siege and undermined, blowing it to pieces.

In where would of been the market place, near the main gates, there were some tents showing local crafts, inside one, a man demonstrated weaving. Of course I asked him about denim weaving, he seemed quite pleased that someone was genuinely interested!

summer2010142.jpg

He also had an example of an ancient weaving loom. Pretty clever stuff for 5000 BCE.

summer2010143.jpg

Finished the day with a walk along the south west coast path to look at Old Harry Rocks.

Rep d for a cool place. Worth pointing out that the reason the castle is wrecked is because the parliamentarians were pissed that they couldn't break the castle by siege - and were humiliated that the defenders were led by a woman. They finally got in by bribing a local and blew u the castle in revenge.

One of my fave places in the uk. I persuaded my wife we should camp there the summer before our wedding, it would help save £££. Rained 10 days out of 14...

Today I headed south of the border. I woke up at 6:30am in hopes of beating the border lineup. Apparently it wasn't early enough because I still had to wait over an hour!

img0654ka.jpg

I picked up some essentials since they're way cheaper than buying locally. Hanes undershirts, 6 for $20. Socks 3 pairs for $7 (made sure to get the USA made Gold Toes).

img0658n.jpg

On the way home I picked up some packages waiting for me:

Cross-post from WAYWT:

I was getting thirsty so I crawled down to the cellar to grab something to drink. Not just any ordinary closet:

img0666u.jpg

Trap door!

img0661f.jpg

I really only have two reasons to come down here: to get the Christmas decorations, or to store/grab a bottle...

img0662ic.jpg

The climate down here is stable, not too hot or too cold throughout the year, making it ideal for storing my stash. It's running a little low these days:

img0664u.jpg

One of my favourite local wineries; they make great white wines, although this is my first time trying one of their reds. Not too shabby:

Cheers!

@Huatzai: Where is 310 Woodland? Isn't he OGL's master craftsman?

Roy's had smoothie today - at Melbourne's best smoothie/juice place...or dare I say Australia's best?

DSC03959.jpg

DSC03962.jpg

Their trademark is the South American smoothie/juice; it is layered differently so each sip tastes a little different, amazing stuff...

DSC03975.jpg

View across the street from the shop - Melbourne's former General Post Office (now a shopping mall).

Roy's are happy :)
