cheers for the kind words fellas, well received!

sorry for the belated reply, you know what a shy e-personality i am.

as its still unbearable hot the kids are refusing going to bed early,so after a lot of reading, singing and ranting they finally gave in.

I took the chance to get the bike out and went to catch the very last daylight, some architecture and posing will do for today.

took the nipper for a little biketour to the harbour.most pics are done on the ride.

just round the corner, the St.Georg district turns from officebuildings and 4star hotels...

...into little arabia,lots of turkish/arabic shops,supermarkets and restaurants,which i highly recommend for authentic,quality food.

on the way to the harbour we passed the typical tourist-traps

anybody fancy a harbour boat trip at 34°C?

4799370955_a2703364f7_z.jpg

you probably not.

this guy is doing it right:

getting hammered in the blazing heat whilst working on his tan.

judging by his headgear and backpack he still expects germany to win the worldcup.

Love the building immediately above--amazing manipulation of pattern through altering orientations and scale. Could've been part of the student art show! Really cool stuff, man.

cheers man,

this is just a tiny part of a huge building:

also check the Chilehaus:

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chilehaus

its in german, but you should be able to find some info in english.

really really love the architecture in Hamburg from 1910 to 1940,sadly lots of it was destroyed in 1943.

i wasnt too sure if i should post this, but people checking wastebins is far more common now than 5 years ago.in 2005 the government introduced a new law regarding unemployment.if people dont find a job after a year they are forced to live from 345,-€ a month, which is by european standards really low.i know people who are affected by it,it makes everyday life really tough, esp. with kids.

Whoa??????? You guys got badonkadonk in Germany too? I thought y'all just had anorexic skinny broads.

On a serious note. What was the unemployment compensation law before 2005?

rnr:before 2005 it was depending on how many years you worked, how much you earned and how long you had paid unemployment-insurance.in any case it was enough for living.

roy6: I passed it yesterday, its up behind the stairs here

4799752088_558d50ae7d_z.jpg

as i had nothing better to do today i decided to get on the bike again and do roy6 a favour.on the way to the botanic garden i noticed that algal are liking the high temperatures we have for the last couple of weeks:

4801735705_da6f8f2f4a_z.jpg

4802367744_7732a74d55_z.jpg

setting the camera to action mode and shooting from the bike surely is fun:

4801736287_0a2d6feae1_z.jpg

the so-called Kriegsklotz,"Warblock",an ugly monument build by the nazis in 1936.it is usually covered in lots of paint and graffito, looks much better complely stained:

4801759277_b4fa1914c3_z.jpg

after the war it was decided to leave it as it is,as a memorial against fascism.in any way the cheapest solution.in the background you see the memorial against it,done by austrian artist Alfred Hrdlicka in 1986:

4802389980_29b43227e8_z.jpg

showing a smashed swastika and the inconceivability of the holocaust

4801758491_926f7ed5bf_z.jpg

the botanic garden is just a minute away
