They aren't locked.... The "you have posted in this thread" icon is set as the lock icon so everything you post in looks locked to you (or so the theory goes)

looks like both the design and implementation have been far too rushed.

swapping the sidebar to the right-hand side (at least on the forums) would be a relatively quick fix and improve things dramatically.

also, text line-height needs increasing a fair bit. not good atm...

seems like it doesn't work with IE at all. IE7 gives an error when opening threads, IE8 shows a blank page. I'm on firefox at the moment but I guess this could be considered somewhat of a problem

Not sure what the design team was thinking but this just does not make sense. Someone broke it down earlier in this thread really well with diagrams and everything....this is some really unsound garbage design, sure to wean the amount of site activity so maybe that was the intention?....
