Jewelry for my girlfriend

I just looked at the TFS accessories section and here's the consensus on what pretty much every girl has a hardon for (all of these are ugly except the mcqueen which is mediocre (i like how thin and sort of transparent it is), but whatever)

McQueen Skull Scarf (THE OLSEN TWINS WORE IT)

Hermes Accessories (they can't afford the nice leather shit that is actually worth it so they buy $200 silk scarves and $300 armbands and pretend the quality justifies the price... this must be what they think about us)

Chanel J12 Watch (all 3 in the picture are real btw, even though it looks like ChanelxCanalStreet)

Chanel in General (including these fucking gaudy earrings)

but in all honesty, buying a girl something like that without her guidance is complete insanity, because they are so fucking picky on this shit (though we are as well).

I find that its much more fun to go look at things in person rather than online when I am buying jewelry for my girlfriend. Makes it a bit more interesting I guess. That said, I did by my girlfriend a shaun leane piece directly from them via the web. Much more than 300 dollars though...

yeah, my girl isn't corny. I've always thought that the big designer symbols on jewelry and what not was not only corny, but very, VERY trashy...

even if she is not corny, she probably has no taste when it comes to fashion beyond what she reads in cosmo. the shit i just picked out is from an invite only forum full of girls who are "mad about fashion". if you have a girl who is genuinely into nice stuff regardless of the label association, consider yourself really lucky.

i've basically accepted that my girls dont know how to dress because at the same time, i'm glad they dont spend an hour daily on superfuture.

i dont know what kinds of girlfriends you have but if you are relying on jewelry to get you laid, maybe consider looking for another girl. buy something she will genuinely like. this means letting her decide, unless you've seen her long for a piece of jewelry before. if she does, remember it, write it down if you have to, and then buy it at some point in time if it fits the budget.

I bought my girlfriend this (along with other things - it's only $10) but she loves it and get so many compliments on it:

it comes in silver for $125 also if you want a more substantial gift.

biting the surface to air "engagement" ring pretty hard here.

So I forgot the (10). Point is the Tiffany box is a well-known thing.

But to the OP, do what Prof says. Get a sense of her tastes, hopefully she's given a few specific examples to guide your decision, and fit into a budget. If she likes narrow rings, a huge band with a stone inset into it probably won't work.

Also, I'd stay away from platinum, only because it dulls really quickly. If she doesn't mind that though, I'm pretty sure it's stronger than gold, so that's worth considering.

personally, necklaces are my least favourite type of jewellery to be blowing dough on. because unless they're something really inconspicuous or pedestrian, you'd get sick of seeing it on such a visible area of your body all the time.

"tasteful" is really subjective and ambiguous a guideline.

nevertheless,

try:

georg jensen for sleek finishes

alex + chloe for something with a little more of a bite

tatty devine for something humorous/ kitsch

or my personal favourite argentum. the artist has a very distinct style, which isn't really for everyone so it depends on your girlfriend's personality.

l'artichaut stocks some of the above names, albeit not very complete range. and you can check out some of the other labels they carry, though i'm really not quite fond of the other designers. they have a few nice pieces for men though.

if she's into interior design and architecture, then she may also like some of the stuff here:

i liked: http://www.unicahome.com/p32456/ginkgo-necklace-by-maria-jauhiainen.html

http://www.unicahome.com/p33051/steel-choker-with-single-white-pearl-by-barbara-silverstein.html

http://www.unicahome.com/p26499/laura-baxter-contemporary-jewelry/stigma-stamen-necklace-by-laura-baxter.html

this isn't a necklace but it's awesome:

http://www.unicahome.com/p32047/gaia-and-gino/osman-jewelry-collection-by-arik-levy.html

alternatively,

if there's a certain fashion label that she is fond of, then maybe a trinket from there would work. such as something from agnes b.

yes, as you can see, i am into jewellery.

although it's a misnomer, because i don't like jewels.

ps. yes the prof is right. the imperative is to get a good sense of what her preferred aesthetic is before you select anything.

pps. if you can't be sure it's beautiful, make it meaningful. choose something very simple, timeless and engrave a nice message. can't really go wrong.

If you are serious about buying someone jewelry, do some research, read about metals, stone colour and quality ratings, hallmarks...just generally familiarise yourself with what youre looking at. Then go scour pawn brokers and find something special for a bargain.

This mass produced, designer label stuff is horrid.
