i dont know... the evisu no1 fabric is some of the nicest ive seen... id rate it with samurai or higher. the construction and detailing are top too.

id rather pay the extra for the no1... the quality and heritage are worth it to me

Well if you want to talk about construction, detailing and heritage, a 2000 no1 and 2000 no2 are identical in that respect.

The no1 and no2 denim are quite different though I suppose, I have never seen a faded no1 either. All the great faded evisu I've seen are no2s.

But then again, given the choice to buy my 2000s again, I would buy the no.1s without much thought, simply knowing I got the best denim I could would be enough. I probably wouldn't jump straight into buying the no1s though.

^^ Wow...you changed your mind pretty quickly.

there's nothing wrong with changing ones opinion upon the arrival of new information. just because he seems to have changed his mind after cheep's statement doesnt neccesarily mean hes a swingman( my term for one who swing's from another's sack). the most wise men change their opinions from time to time. if evisu's EXPENSIVE(relatively speaking) #1 top of the line cloth isn't superior to samurai's usual fare, it'll be a while before i go the jay-z route.

ps: FUCK jay, for not giving meth, red, or the legendary roots a video...yet he had 3 lame versions of a wack song. he didnt show me anything.

No one seems interested, but if I bought a new pair of Evisu next time, I think I'd go for the 2004 (the 2001 cut with cinch-back) with black or red gulls (Anyone?). They'd have to be the NO.1 denim, though.

Natao...

I dislike red or black - so nope

I love the idea of Chinch back - but it looks like the Samurai BIG collab will fill that gap..so another nope..

But regardless - I agree on Number 1...stupid me....;)

Hmm..I'd have to feel the No. 2 denim in order to agree..Samurai is really hard to beat...

It's smooth denim and not as slubby as Samurai. I think Samurai is more creative in terms of tightness of weave, slubbyness, texas cotton, design. But in terms of an overall aesthetic as a brand, Evisu has them beat by a mile. Evisu has been doing this for many years and I think they diverged from the repro market and created their own very individual identity. Samurai is definitely on the road to getting there.

Samurai has a very maverick attitude towards what they do, which has to be respected. They catch a little hate back in Japan for what they do, but thats exactly the reason why I dig 'em.

Beatle, if you ever get a chance, go to the stores in Osaka. It'll flip you out and give you new insight on Evisu.

^^ i hate teh you

haha yeah that's coo'; i was actually being semi-serious as well though.

My experiences re jap evisu (I went to the daikanyama store a couple of years ago and bought the pair of no.2 2000s which cameland now owns):

no.2 denim (20,000y (2 years ago)) = pretty regular weave, not very slubby, a little hairy, deep grey/blue cast, very solid stuff.

no.1 denim (30,000y) = on the face of it, seemed pretty much identical to the no.2 denim. there must be some difference aside from it being non-sanforised (given the 10,000y price difference), but superficially I couldn't see it. (Also, as has been discussed previously, we have seen some amazing fades coming out of the no.2 denim, so I don't think it's right to say that no.1 definitely yields superior fadez).

no.0 denim (about 35,000y from memory) = non-sanforised, noticeably hairier, also noticeably rougher/slubbier than the others. really beautiful, top-quality, but also unique, which the no.2 and no.1 are not so much. Would liken it with something like the Texas cotton denim used for the contest sams (I haven't personally handled these sams, but from what I have seen/read, they seem very similar to the evisu no.0 denim).

IMO - the no.2 denim is some seriously nice shit - nothing that unique, but great nonetheless. I can't see any reason (except maybe a nice leg-twist) to pay the extra 10,000y for the no.1 denim. However there is certainly something special about the no.0 denim that might be worth the premium.

Hmm ..seeing the shots of both denims I can rest assured - Samurai beats No. 2 Evisu...

Don't see how... all the pics show is that the Evisu is a tighter weave. As well the Evisu looks to be more slubby. But without looking at the actual denim and feeling it I think it would be hard to tell. Also as much as people here love their Raw denim it is harder to tell the quality of the fabric Raw. Washes and wear show more of the the denims properties as time goes on.
