How do you guys determine if someone is chill to smoke with?

I had a friend that moved from Australia when he was a kid, chillest kid in the world, never would have thought anything bad of him. But like three years ago he moves back to Sydney and we don't stay in touch. Apparently he came back a couple years ago but he's in a different high school than me so we haven't chilled for a good few years. Anyway, he gets my number somehow and texts me today. the second text I get from him asks if I smoke. It's like that's the main purpose of his contact is to see if I smoke which just seems weird to me. Anyway we made plans to chill but does it seem weird to anyone else that he'd just focus on smoking and when we're going to smoke and nothing else really? Also, all of his friends have been busted for possession except him so that's just another factor. There's a lot more weird stuff surrounding the situation as well but this already turned out longer than I wanted so I'll add details if needed

Yeah that's what I was thinking too it's almost too cliche to be a coincidence. I mean we shared the same group of friends through middle school but most everyone went to his HS so it was supposed to be some sort of reunion type shit. It was more to catch up but he's talking about smoking on my birthday, 4:20, when I'll be 18 which also makes me hesitant.
