Anyone has experience of Cote&Ciel backpacks? Looking for something that strikes a good balance between durability, usability and looks. It seems that their line of Isar Rucksack hits that balance. Just need a bag that will hold a laptop/books and some random small things. Comments?

Have a look at one in-person before you buy, i wanted one then saw them in a store and they are huuuuuuge, way way bigger than they look in the pictures

trying to decide between the 22l and the 20l from visvim. i really don't like the waist straps on the 20 and i like the front zip pocket on the 22, buuuut i also havent seen a 22 in person and i don't really need something that's significantly bigger/longer than the 20l.

any tips?

abracadabra is right, the big waist strap on the 20L is removable.

^^ holy shit.

right now i'm selling my white camo ms-pc backpack i got last year. amazing bag, but my style has changed too much and i can't work it in to my wardrobe.

i had a bit of trouble finding a replacement as you can see by some posts i made a few pages back. i wanted something nice and simple. i ended up buying an old black leather backpack i found on ebay. it was only $30 but sooooo worth it. it's not as good as the ms-pc one but for $30 it's great. the leather is actually really nice deerskin. i'd recommend doing what i did if you're looking for something nice and don't want to spend a lot of money. i'm sure it beats the hell out of a new cheap leather backpack and it's less expensive.

Preview of our Ash Black color and our Monk Sack straps. The outer part of the bag is a 100% organic dyed Korean Silk/Cotton blend. The color you see is made by mixing Korean persimmon fruit, charcoal, and burnt ash. The patterned texture on every yard of this fabric is different, making each individual Monk Sack completely unique. Both straps are hand-knotted to create a that bow and the entire bag will soften with continuous use and look better over time.

got a Ballistic 20L - Olive/Orange

130123_012_Vis20Lcr.jpg

I finally got a Visvim 20L backpack and here's a quick 30 second review based on using it the past week :

> For reference - my other 2 backpacks that I currently use are the Supreme 18th and Visvim 23L.

> Love the materials of the 20L - Ballistic Nylon and Veggie tanned cowhide bottom. Feels very lux and hopefully durable. I immediately removed the waist strap which is way too bulky.

> The size of the 20L is perfect for me. I thought the Supreme 18th was a bit big for daily use and the 23L I only used for travelling. I thought the opening for the 23L was a bit restrictive. 20L is much better for daily use.

> riri zips are dope.

> I usually carry around a camera, retractable umbrella (if there's a chance of rain), gym clothes, misc paperwork, a light hoody/jacket and some fruits (apple/banana).

> There is a stiff structure in the bag which works well - it adds good support and helps to keep the shape of the bag. Makes it almost like a semi-hard case.

Overall - I like the bag a lot. I'd even venture to say that it's "worth the money" for it - it's a pretty substantial bag and it's something that I will use daily.

and i finally got around to it

8451420493_df134175d1_z.jpg

i got this like 4 months ago but never posted pics even though i intended to. it's just an old plain black leather backpack to replace my ms-pc one (more appropriate for my wardrobe). i found it on ebay for $40 (said $30 earlier but shipping was $10 i think). might've been able to find something similar in a thrift store but i think they're picked pretty clean here and i didn't feel like looking around when this was right in front of me. the brand is called "mallard" (i'm guessing long out of business/changed name) and the only branding is an imprint on the back. it's deerskin and the quality is surprisingly very good. it's worn in but no real damage save for a little bit of loose stitching in an area that's really only cosmetic. had i known i was going to like it this much i would have been willing to pay quite a bit more.

must have paid something like $40 or less for this muji backpack

tumblr_mfycgr2nAx1qa47z6o1_500.jpg

for those in the market for a cheap everyday use backpack i'd say it's totally worth it; pu coated canvas means it handles light to medium rain perfectly fine from my experience (yet to run through typhoons with it) and the straps and back are padded and have several mesh layers. there's a rucksack style internal separator between the top/bottom compartments, one internal zip pocket up top and another zip pocket on the top front portion, accessible from left side. also has waist straps; left strap has velcro pocket. non-removable but they stow perfectly fine if you loop them under the two loops covering the bottle holders on either side then buckle them in front. also has nylon webbing on straps and comes with detachable straps to attach to that so you can clip them up top. hiking details; whatever you call those things. definitely help for weight distribution too.

my biggest complaint would be that the pack doesn't really have much of a structure but considering what i paid i find it to be a competent backpack and the build quality's good; just arrange your stuff inside sensibly and the bag'll hold its shape.

EDIT: here's the dimensions from muji site: 18.1 x 11 x 6.9"

also comes in beige, green, and orange in case all-black errthang isn't your thing

the 20l is like the perfect backpack. saw some at DSM last week and almost regretted getting a white mountaineering one over the holiday. the pricing is stupid though...

this is the white mountaineering backpack i got, super simple, but quality is amazing

Anyone know of a decent backpack that is waterproof, looks okay (not that worried about looks though tbh, happy with just plain black), and is somewhere in the range of 20L-24L ? Or suggestions of brands I should be looking at?

Preferably under $100 / €75 / £65 and can be purchased in Europe. Thanks.

Word of warning

IF you decide to buy a lamina pack then make sure you buy one from a FIL store/dealer direct or proxy with a receipt and NOT a reseller like conceptshop who have totally f***ed me over. My 2nd lamina pack and only 6 months old the straps have perished with stitching, padding and cord all falling apart.

conceptshop.hk won't offer any help, regardless of having spent a fortune with them in the past and Visvim will repair it if I pay, approx $300+ inc shipping

This hasn't just happened on mine either, it's a known problem with some of the lamina packs.

6 months old, carries gym kit and a 15 inch macbook pro approx 3 times a week!

taken from same thread another that has perished twice now!

btw - this is mine after it had already gone back to Visvim and been repaired. (about a year later now)
