Hello,

Leather jackets aren't my jam & i am getting a motorcycle over the next few weeks.. obviously i've started to already think about the equipment. I want very good protection but since leather jackets might not be in the picture, those ugly ass motorcycle jackets are definitely out too. I heard it's not unwise, and sometimes more efficient, to build your own jacket. Starting with this UC jacket:

http://ord.yahoo.co.jp/o/auction/_ylt=A3JvW31k1NFUXXUA6gZAPDh8/SIG=12be1uouu/EXP=1423123940/**http%3a//page6.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/f141067590

I would intend to add in my own Kevlar plates and all that jazz, i probably wouldn't get that white jacket but the black version. I'd also use a tailor.. or even any of you guys in this thread, paid work of course..

any thoughts?

perhaps this UC isn't suited to hosting armour or the construction isn't strong enough.. but could i add new seams and that to make it tougher?

cheers

i'm currently trying to teach myself how to draft my own patterns and then sowing the pieces together. it's a really steep learning curve and my inner prefectionist keeps getting in the way.

at the end when you wear your own piece though is the best feeling ever :D

I alter and customize my clothing, but nothing from scratch yet.  Here I shortened a blue Oxford from Uniqlo, gave it a straight hem, removed the cuffs (i don't like cuffs on my shirts), and then added a homemade elbow patch.

What do you guys think?  Any feedback or questions is welcome and appreciated.

Nice work and cool instagram too, really like the zipper-pocket shirt (inspired by Snowman?)

Thank you for the feedback, kindofyoung! Inspired by Nike tech zippers and a Pyer Moss (brand) utility shirt. Not sure what Snowman is... is that a brand?

Hello everyone! We are the LifeofBabo team and we are running a hip hop and urban t-shirt campaign. We would be happy if you guys could check out our website. We are a team of students at Babson College that are running a t-shirt campaign called LifeofBabo. We are inspired my hip hop legends like Kanye that are killing the hip hop game and revolutionizing rap in a whole new way and our t-shirts reflect that passion. All of our proceeds go to inner city kids towards music programs at their schools; these are kids that could have been the next Kanye or Drake had they gotten the music education to support their dreams.

If you believe in keeping dreams alive for those who have no chance to pursue them given economic circumstances of school systems in the cities of America, come to our website and our social media and show us some love! We are looking to collaborate with other hip-hop artists, companies, and people as well and spread our message. Thank you everyone and please check our website out!

Sincerely,

LifeofBabo Team

Most of my stuff has been using patterns or using patterns and modifying them. I'm looking to try and create some totally original stuff soon but to do that I need to make slopers or whatever. Haven't had the time to dedicate to that so I've just been drawing ideas instead.

Definately considering making some more throwaway type pieces out of fleece since I just...ended up with a lot of it for some reason?

This is an amazing thread! So much skill here.

I've set myself out on a 30-day challenge to make a new product from scratch every single day for 30-days as spurred on by the mentor leading my internship in technical apparel design. I'm on day 10 now with 20 more to go. The results of day 1-9 are linked below - I've included full construction project logs and patterns can be made available is there's enough demand for me to digitize them
