HARDCORE SAVED MY LIFE

Recommended Posts

Yeah...Uh...I'd say Damaged is a great great album...classic even...but it is a sin to overlook the earlier Flag...I feel like that band reached it's peak about 6 times (3 of which happened before Rollins).

My only gripe with Damaged...sometimes I wish it were recorded a bit cleaner (like the earlier stuff...Poly said it many pages back and I def. hear it now...the earlier stuff is just sonically better).

Yeah but those early Boston bands were great!

i personally think nothing holds a candle to early boston hardcore. there isn't a bad track (despite the amazing diversity) on "This is Boston, Not LA." It's really weird for me to think that such innovative bands like the Proletariat were playing hand in hand with straight forward hardcore bands like Minor Threat, Black Flag. As can be said about the Proletariat, as the same with Mission of Burma. The Gang Green tracks on "This is Boston, Not La" are amazing, the kids were like 14-16 at the time...

I do agree that early Boston hardcore was great. SSD's "Boiling Point" is probably one of my favorite songs from that region and time period.

I don't know about Black Flag being totally "straight forward" though.

From what I know of the current "scene"...I find myself wondering the same thing about Ceremony when they play shows with Soul Control and other Youth Crew'ish hc bands. Ceremony, to me, is in a league of their own...certainly a great take on what modern day hc is supposed to sound like.

I mentioned DIschord in my last post...and yes...it's probably been said...def. thought...but I can't forget to mention the early DC stuff. From TeenIdles/Minor Threat and Scream to Governemtn Issue and fucking Void.

All I know about this band is that they inserted a cheesey line about straight edge into their Embrace cover. Are they actually any good?

they've been pretty important for the european straight edge scene in the early 1990s that's for sure, however hardly anyone remembers them, even though edward started goodlife recordings and hans sings for liar and did sobermind records later on

They posted something about that on their Myspace blog. I don't know how this happened exactly, but IMO the Bad Brains aren't so focused on shutting down everything that is corporate or machine-related as some of their punk brothers and sisters. They were more on some spread love, spread positive music shit...plus weren't they signed? It's not so much of a fallacy as seeing someone like Minor Threat or the DK's on MTV.

Also this ain't the first time...Bad Brains were also on MTV during The Quickness era I think...they showed a few videos and spoke to Dr. Know and D.J. about the band (probably the same shit as they talk about now...and no HR...but back then I'm sure was one of the many turbulent times for them)...showed I AGainst I, Soul Craft, and Secret Agent 77, I think.

reign supreme anyone?

not exactly the most thought provoking or original hardcore band lately, but if their new record doesnt make you mosh, you might be gay.

Wow, I was gay all this time and didn't know it? No offense, but judging by the songs on their Myspace page, yawn...
