i suggest you try 2step first. its a better regression from dubstep cos its much darker sounding than the mid-90's garage (but theres some good garage), check early 2000's horsepower productions, this is one of my favs:

others you can try: roll deep (early wiley) and el-b

garage: wookie, todd edwards, menta, bump and flex, steve gurley, jasper street company

thing about garage and 2step was that it was pretty much exclusively distributed as 12" promos and singles or thru mixtapes and pirate radio, and this was before the internet so unless you were around the scene at the time its pretty difficult to get into.
