i paid $100 for the XT with the EF-S 17-85mm f4/5.6 USM Image Stabilized Lens

$100 brand new?! That's quite a steal.

Anyway, here's a good website which covers some basics. It's very good at explaining the many options that you have available to you on your camera.

just play around with it and try to learn the basics, different settings and so on. I dont have a good guide to share but I'm sure there is a decent one that explains basic use.

heres a very good review and explanations of different modes, controls etc: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos350d/

I got a Nikon D1H DSLR a while back decked out with professional flashes and some crazy lenses, for free from a friend. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond1h/

When I got it (about a year ago I think) me and some friends did a price check on the whole package and we were somewhere in the $5000~$7000 range. It makes me feel really horrible that I have such an expensive piece of equipment and don't even have real photography training other than a few classes I took in high school.

i've personally been juggling around with an idea of getting my first dSLR... i've come down to the Canon XT or Nikon D40. both around similar price but the D40 i guess is a bit cheaper since it comes with two lens'.... but yeah alot of reviews show that both these cameras are the bang for the buck so we'll see when i start really checking stuff out

How much did you pay? They go for around 600 dollars for the whole kit. Which is not bad at all. I think you should google some places and read about DSLRs, and get familier with it... I've seen the Japanese version the KISS or something, and it shoots nice clear images, but I havn't seen it in full resolution.

the 300d kiss is the asian version of the canon rebel, except with a black body. no technical differences at all.

goddamn, $100. ebay gold.

Hey guys, im saving up for a dslr, im thinking about the canon eos 400ds,

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000IKVOE8/ref=wl_it_dp/202-8815085-0780620?ie=UTF8&coliid=I3M1QRHHH81Z5A&colid=27CLIIP82MGFI

it looks like it would have everything I need, Ive only really used SLRs in the past and photoshopd internet images, Im just finishing a fine art degree, im thinking this would be the thing to sort me out for many years.

Will it work with a mac??? Opinions, ideas, objections all welcomed.

Canon 20d. Under a grand. First Canon small body to replicate film almost perfectly.

As a personal admirer of Nikons film cameras and not one to really get into the whole Canon vs. Nikon debate, i will say this;

Canon is absolutely fucking kicking Nikons ass in the digital SLR race.

Canon with their full frame censors have been leading the digital photography world for years. I have a good friend thats a photo editor for the Chicago Trib and he said they've been using the big Canons for years now. The 1Ds markII which is the KING. Full frame sensor almost 17 megapixels for sports 4 frames per second sealed for shooting in severe weather situations.

I was talking to a camera rep that was telling me for Nikon to use a full frame censor they are going to have to change all of their lenses to cover the censor area. I don't know if thats true but it could explain why the haven't gone full frame yet.
