Samurai VS Sugar Canes

please explain how detailing is a million times better on the canes. i'm very curious. i think that threads breaking on the sammi's affected your judgment too strongly. is it the lined back pockets? felled seams? pathc?

it's been explained by at least five different people already... why ask poly to re-post what he's already posted twice!

they're both nice, but completely different. they each focus on quality but in slightly different ways. It's personal preference, just do a little research and i'm sure anyone could make a conscious decesion between the two as they are so different. comparision of these two pretty much ends at price point and that they are both jeans from japan.

i actually like my canes though they arent the premium (sc45) and i think the quality of the jeans is really good i have washed the jeans atleast 10 times and ive only had them for 4-5 months mostly because i was still new to raw denim but the color is still a deep blue. i havent had time to purchase a pair of sams yet because of holiday shopping but i do look foward to owning a pair of s5000.

i don't think i rushed my judgement, as even though all that crap has happened to my samurai's, i still wear them everyday, fit is on point on them. but yeah, i'm basically explaining everything i did a few lines up.

I'll hopefully take some pics soon.

okinawa's in general are a more unique jean. as i stated many times, you cannot really compare the quality of either of them, as I'm sure both jeans will be close to on par with each other in terms of quality.

but in terms of uniqueness, yeah, i tip my hat to sugarcane. to quote history preservation "the textile specialists at Sugar Cane were the first in the world to produce a selvage-denim fabric made from woven cotton yarns and sugar cane fibers. Cotton and sugar cane yarns are dyed completely by machine in this specific selvage dungaree style, with the cotton and sugar cane being harvested from the Japanese island of Okinawa, hence the style name. The dyed yarns are turned into the prized, coarse-weave Japanese selvage denim on slow-moving, vintage shuttle looms from the “good old days†of manufacturing in the USA. Capturing the essence of true vintage selvage dungarees can only be achieved using vintage machinery, so goes the philosophy behind Sugar Cane, so it logically flows that this sumptuous selvage-denim fabric is lovingly crafted into the finished product by the most meticulous technicians using sewing machines from the 1920’s."

even the mix of cotton used is something new.

the front pockets on mine are a blue coarse weave material. the pocket lining is actually detailed fabric, and whatever the back patch is, it's insane.

to say that i have kind of written off my samurais because of a few thread breaks is ridiculous, because at the end of the day, its my samurais that i do wear. Samurai's aren't jeans to discredit either. weather you're talking about the blacks or the contest samurai's, well, the blacks have donut button, exposed coin pocket selvdge, and i wouldn't even describe it as slubby. too many people around here throw around the word slubby like it's their job and their point of reference is a picture on a computer screen. come feel the 19oz oni's or to a lesser extent the pure blues and contest samurai's and you'll know slubby. hairyness of the denim is fairly common in most if not all japanese brand jeans.....

exactly the answer i was looking for, thanks. most people just said "patch pocket, stictch" but not exactly why.

the s5000bk IS subby! just not to the extent of ONI or pureblues (i think those are too slubby, but non the less kick fucking ass). to me the 17oz bk denim is just about the perfect amount of slubbyness.

I'm thinking of getting the Samurai 3000vx I generally wear 32x34 -- what sixe should i get. Are they sized larger and then shrink to labelled size like Sugarcanes. I don't want to buy the jeans, soak them and the have it too small. Any help and advice will be apprecieated.

Why not ask the kind folks at blueingreen or self edge. I'm sure either of them would be more than happy to answer your questions and take your order.

if you want a slim fit, you could ould size down 2 with no probs, because the 17oz denim will stretch out ok

after a couple of washes, they do shrink to tag size though.

That seals it - where's the cheapest place to get some 36 Okinawas natural indigo..

Rakuten Hinoya only has sizes 27 and 28 right now, but if they ever come back in, they should be about $340 from 2000db:

http://item.rakuten.co.jp/hinoya/sc40300n/

History Preservation has them on their site, but they're $500 (scroll all the way down):

Sorry, not much help I guess. Try googling them, I've found Rakuten links that way before. Although... Kiya from SE pmed me the other day on ISS asking about SC40400Ns, so maybe Self Edge is going to stock natural indigo Sugar Canes? Just speculation, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

japan, obviously.

[that sounds like i'm trying to be a dick, but i'm not]

Already talked to 2000db before I posted - was looking for other suggestions besides buying services, just in case I needed to make a return.

You wouldn't have sounded like a dick without the "obviously" but I'm fine either way.

I know you're all about the love, ddml.

I asked BiG if they planned on carrying it and they didn't respond.. as well as Denim Bar. I'll check with SE.

Ok I got the sammies size 36 (i'm tall 6'2"). Soaked them in cold water for 1h, they went from a 38 to a 36.5-37 and the fit is nice, but they could be a little baggier around the lower leg. Now my new question is should I get the same size in the Okinawa One Wash, according to BIG they are true to size, but if they shrink more (not sure if they do) after another wash they may get too tight around the waist. So, should I maybe size up to a 38 and soak them in hot water and hope they shrink a bit, or stick to the 36 and dry clean them only.

Thank for all the posts and help I received from you guys btw!!!!!!

glad you didn't take offense, kronik.

if you aren't in a hurry, i'd stake out supermarket for okis. they seem to take a lot of victims, mufuggas just can't cope with the cuts/crocking of canes. anyone remember the series of two natch indigo canes that went for $200 in the same week? i do.

not for everyone, for sure. makes 'em that much specialer.

Samurai seems stronger then SugarCane...

Samura is more expensive than SugarCane, but SugarCane does have more expensive jeans.

SugarCane has cool unique jeans, but go for like 280 dollars.

So Samurai is more expensive but SugarCane has more expensive jeans?

I dont get it.

Anyway on topic.. I like more fits from Samurai than the SugarCanes.

As mentioned before Sammies are much slimmer than most Canes.
