Best budget formal wear

Hey all

I know it sounds like an oxymoron, but whats the best fitting (and perhaps quality) formal wear for the price?

Im going to a "Christmas Ball" for my gf's university course and didnt want to wear my overly boxy typical job-interview suit.

Im not looking for Brioni or any Saville Row shit, just something that is a bit more fitted, maybe 2 buttons, pinstripe, quality enough to take a few heavy nights out before the seams bust and want it to look good enough to wear on a date and not have her think "schmuck".

Im in Pompey right now, but could travel up to London if need be.

Im thinking maybe H&M or Uniqlo, havent checked either out yet. Anyways, I would just appreciate any other suggestions! Thanks!

if you just want some shit to wear every once in a while to a thing, H&M is decent. if you want it to last, spend the dough somewhere real.

Thanks for the link ayn, thats really interesting. Been wondering about custom suits for a while, always thought they were out of my price range! But the ball is in a week, so thats a no go.

Why don't you just rent a nice tux / formal suit?

Check out Express, they have suits for 200 US.

i don't know about the vintage/thrift shops/consignment stores there but... you could always try those.

and if its cheap you can always take it to a tailor and get some small alterations done make sure it fits in key places though.

if you're on a strict budget, h&m cuts are the cheapest decent quality stuff.

zara if you're a baller within a budget...

You could always check out e-bay and take the suit to a tailor. I was able to score a nice brioni for $300 and an APC for $280 . Just keep an eye out.

check ebay for vintage YSL suits, the cut of those are awesome imo. love my old ass father handmedown YSL suit

Thanks for the advice guys. Djrajio, there arent too many places in Portsmouth to rent a suit thats stylish, ive already checked. Its not exactly a 'Metro' city by any means.

Ill swing by H&M tomorrow, if I dont find anything ill trek up to London for the weekend. Ball is this coming wednesday. Hooray for procrastination.
