It is definitely gonna be a sweet everything bike. Any reason why youre going for Paul hubs over phil wood high flanges? Also, I would get a Paul crank (the royal flush) over the 75. More unique!

but 75s are NJS, gotta have NJS.

no, that's sarcasm.

but at least with an NJS stamp you know they perform at really high risk conditions, not like Paul components aren't nice.

I have these as well and mine are tripled up in spots,... so I used my stove to heat them up again and get them tighter. The conventional method, however, would be a heat gun.

I guess I will give it a try and put something under them. Heating them up in the stove? So you put the stove to 350 and baked your handle bars for 15 minutes?

What's peoples recomendations for handle bars? I was thinking of the Nitto Rb-18 or some nice drops.

No, umm the range. I put the burners on high and held the bars over them with oven mits (mines electric). You just have to watch out as they can melt/burn.

I just used a butane lighter. Cheap 1$ shit. The kind that has the not normal flame... if that makes sense.

They recommended a heat gun (I bought mine at carnival too) but the lighter worked fine. used them for ~4 months without slippage. only time they got fucked up is removing my bars, and now they're shot to shit.

Not really. It's more like NJS stamps are so that you fall in a very narrow range of performance, with an emphasis on the rider, and not on the machine/technology. In other words, they arbitrarily restrict you to a certain technology gap. And I quote:

However, it should be noted that the NJS standard is to ensure that no rider will have any advantage or disadvantage based on equipment, and does not necessarily relate to quality or standard of manufacture; e.g. 36 spoke wheels are allowed but not 32, and frames must be built by a very limited number of approved builders.
So really, it's only because hypebeasts want to get on the OMG KEIRIN hypewagon instead of purchasing low-key no name brands that work just as well. I really don't see the point of buying Chris King headsets, Sugino Dura-Ace chainrings, etc, unless a) you're actually racing in a velodrome or under race conditions, or B) ride hundreds of miles in a month.

I've logged around 500 this last two months, and I'm riding basically no-name, low-end brands that I just maintain regularly.

(ps. and in fact, you are an idiot if you spent money on Dura Ace vs. Ultegra components and not racing. You're saving what, a few grams for hundreds more? haha, lose weight, fatty.)

For me at least, a Chris King headset was a decision about getting the best out there, with a ridiculous warranty, and never having to worry about it. Am I hardcore enough for it to be a performance issue? No. But, it's the best headset made according to most riders, and it's known for being bulletproof and long lived. As someone who uses my bicycle every day for commuting, shopping, fitness and fun, that's easily worth a bit of a premium.

oh, current state of my ride (damn, I want to ride it already):

seriously...not being a dick...but that's like 8 or 9 miles a day. that's less than my commute, which is the least of my riding (and i'm sure it's the same for a lot of gents in this thread). if you're going to be a smartass at least back it up with something legit

plus, you're a sucker if you pay full price for anything these days (unless you're building up a sweet, high end handmade frame that makes me super jealous), i ride a full dura ace kit i got for free from flipping a track bike on ebay.

PLUS plus...you're on superfuture...we like to spend money

Every single forum has a few people like you. "Why spend so much on denim/bikes/cars/electronics/crack?'

Just two reasons here:

- People want the best they can afford. When I'm hurtling downhill at 50mph the knowledge that my bike is top quality gives me confidence.

- Without high-end tech you would have no generic, low-end componentry to buy because there would be no research and development.

You choose how to spend your money. Other people will do the same. So let's not throw insults around.

Speaking of insults. I'm a fatty on a lightweight bike. But I ride four or five times further than you over the same time period.

Just a short note about Chris King headsets, I brought one seven years ago. It's spent time on my road bike, cross bike, a mountain bike and has been on my BMX for the last couple of years. I've never replaced the bearings and I've bent three sets of bars on my BMX over this period, the headset still works perfectly. Though initially expensive I think they represent good value.

i bought my njs frame because its a beautiful hand made frame, something that isnt found in the generic bikes. And if you want a quality ride you would build with quality parts. Now when it comes to stems, bars, saddles, wheels and posts i think it is a little excessive to go njs on, but frames, cranks and hubs are some great pieces of bike machinery. i am also against loose ball i have a phil ti in my Makino

plus i laugh everytime you noobs post on here compairing the se lager, winsor and kilo tt. they are the same bike. they are all made in the same factory.

fukn noobs!

neways, i got a fuji track right now, but i was thinking of building up a nicer bike. i really had my eyes set on the eai bk, but its nowhere to be found right now... any other frames you would suggest as a replacement to the bk?

NJS =/= high tech though. They specifically outlaw high-end carbon/Ti/alloys because they want their frames to always be hand-made, lugged steel.

Now I can understand buying it for the nostalgia/quality (just like we buy Brooks saddles or English hand-made, lugged bicycles), but saying it's super high-end tech?

But, this is Superfuture, and I too will drool and shake my fist at those able to afford authentic 3Rensho frames.

Oh and 500 should have been (arbitrarily large number larger than 500).

njs is not high tech. totally agreed. i like njs frames because of the culture behind them. If italian track frames were easier to find you bet id be riding an old school colnago.

i agree with you point about people buying them because they are hype and not knowing anything about track or even cycling culture.

njs is classic, bricks and mortar componentry. by specifically limiting the components, it levels the field so there is no equipment advantage, only rider advantage. keirin is by far more of a betting sport like horse racing or the dog track before it's an individual compeititive sport like other track racing today.
