barns sweatshirts are really great value for your money. My buzz is warmer though.

btw anyone have experience with Toys Mccoy sweaters? They are a tad more expensive than Real Mccoys and wonder if the price tag is justified

I have a couple of Toys Mccoys & a few buzz. The toys are of a better quality in my opinion. I did have pics of them all in this thread but my account got deleted when I changed email address so I lost all my posts & rep .gutted.

I will take more pics & re-post when I get a chance.

^ I agree.

I've had a Toy's McCoy one which I sized poorly :(

Fabric was slightly thicker than The Real McCoy's (which I have handled, but do not own).

I have to say that BR sweats are pretty good and keep you as warm as any other, but maybe mid-range when it compared to it's loop-wheeling competitors in terms of how the fabric comes out after a wash.

Usually after 3 or 4 washes, I would feel the need to brush my BR sweats myself to make it softer on the skin.

Still much better than their Cheswick sister-brand; I have to re-brush them after every wash to get that original napped feeling.

The Flat Head's sweaters are far better for that really comfortable brushed backside.

Although I would not spend $200-something for a Toy's one again when I can get BR ones for $80 to $100.

I would really like to try Cushman's and Deluxeware's sweaters next though...they seem like companies who specialise in loop-wheeled tops.

so how would one size in Toys McCoy; I think i'm a size small in Toys. In Barns Im also Small, in Buzz medium.

would that be the correct sizing in Toys?

I'm a L (tight fit) or XL (more relaxed fit) in BR.

I bought the Toy's in XL, and realised I should have bought L.

Not sure if their sizing has changed or not though.

But yes, I reckon you could try the size small for Toy's.

I don't think the Toy's sweats are any warmer than the BR's though - both around the same thickness as far as I can remember.

Edit:

OK, just did a Rakuten check:

BR' sweats are quoted at 12 oz, Toy's quotes theirs at 11 oz, The Real McCoy's quotes at 9 oz.

Oh, and for cheaper sweats there are some Cheswick's on crazy sale at Rakuten - not bad at around $40 each.

The Barns sweat is that much smaller? From what I could tell through the measurements, Barns M is slightly narrower than Buzz M.

It depends what fit you want. When I bought my 2 toys they only had medium left so I bought them but I think Large would have fit better, which is my buzz size.

How do the Joe McCoy sweats fit in quality wise?

Are they more similar to RMC or Toys?

I never managed to figure out how these companies are affiliated with each other, how they rank...

I really feel like trying some Cushman sweats too, they make some lovely stuff.

^ I think around 23 (?) years ago all the McCoy's were part of the same company - RMC was the military reproduction label, Joe McCoy the denim label, etc.

And then some sh!t happened, the company got split up. The original owner kept running with the Toy's brand (and had labels like McHill, Beck, Buco, etc)... whilst some other folks bought the RMC brand (with labels like Joe McCoy, etc).

Today Joe McCoy has once again been revived as the denim label under The Real McCoy mothership - so I reckon the quality would be pretty close to each other.

My personal feeling is that Toy's McCoy's products are a little higher in quality than The Real McCoy's - but both are way up there.

Buzz Rickson's, being a label under Toyo Enterprises, markets more to the mid-level and entry-level garment/repro nerds...and are priced as such.

Edit: Nothing wrong with BR's though (didn't mean to offend anyone), the majority of my military repro gear is BR - I don't nerd about it enough to justify any "McCoy" purchases.

Brands like Cushman and Deluxeware, at least to me, are the 'tops' experts (they do some, but not many, jeans/military/jackets/leathers) - but I haven't tried the sweaters from either company yet...maybe 2011 :)

Thanks for clearing it up Mike.

Imo the Buzz sweats are very good value for their money with them being relatively cheap and of very decent quality.

I'm digging their vintage fit, although it is a bit short in the body for me.

i can vouch for deluxeware sweatshirts being top notch for the price. i dont think i have ever felt a heavy loopwheeled cotton that dense, and i have at least one of each mentioned above. as was said earlier though flathead comes in a close second in quality.

i will try and take a few pictures as i am actually home for a couple days finally

I agree!

My problem with BR sweaters is that size L fits me good in the chest, but are slightly too short, while size XL is a bit loose in the chest area, but just the right length :P

That'd be awesome :)

I've put in an order for a Cushman's button-down sweat, but I'm also looking to purchase a Deluxeware v-plait sweat as they churn them out this season - their dual-tone sweats look really good.

perhaps it has to do with the inside of the sweater which is more thick with Buzz but my Barns definitely feels bigger compared to the medium Buzz. My size medium buzz is also shorter in the body. I'll see if i can come up with some fit pictures of both.

definitely need to pick up a Toys sweater (and cushville/deluxeware is also on my list)

My Cushman's loop-wheeled heavy sweat arrived today :)

Really heavy loop-wheeled, heather outer shell, and a nice waffle inner lining.

Could be my favourite sweater brand (still have to try Deluxware's though)!

^ Unfortunately no, the only Cushman's I could find on sale were sizes M and L, and I need XL.

Looking forward to the Japanese Summer; SeaBees will hopefully have 30% off all BR sweats again this year.

My Barns sweat just came today, and I really like it. It feels a bit thinner than the Buzz sweats, but I might like the fit a bit more. My only issue with it is that it's a bit too light to be considered navy blue.

EDIT: Might have to take back what I said on the fit. The length is probably better with people with a normal torso length, but mine is extremely short.
