^cool.

Kiya, can you comment on the fit at all? Katherine sent me some measurements, and the sleeves seem a bit short (which would make sense with a true 'vintage fit'):

sleeve 17.5"

Length 28"

chest approx 18.5"

Not sure what size that was for, but the chest (and also shoulders) should stretch quite a bit, if needed (Katherine mentioned up to ~25"?). So I think you could reasonably get something like a 30" sleeve, measured from the middle of the collar. That's still a few inches shorter than 'normal' for MF shirts.

Then again, I'd mostly wear it under something like a CPO, so what does it matter?

I'll have measurements up once they go up in the online store..

EDIT: Actually, i will NOT have measurements on these. Just got off the phone with MFHQ and these aren't really fit for online sales due to the crazy sizing. We'll have all the versions of these in-store by Monday at the latest, $130 each, blanks only (no printed versions).

^Arms were short back in the day. Vitamin deficiencies, I presume.

Seriously, though, that's why I can't even consider wearing vintage workshirts. I think people were in general shorter, and possibly preferred shorter sleeves to keep them out of the way of the machinery? I'm by far the tallest person in the last three generations of my family.

I have the same problem with vintage shirts, as my arms are long too. But I do find some shirts that do fit though.

Maybe people did have short arms, but they didn't make their shirts with short arms. They made shirts that fit. I've never seen a picture of workmen with shirts that didn't fit them in the sleeve. The only shorter sleeve shirts I can think of are army shirts from the 40/50's, but they were not their dress shirts.

If he's making shirts with tiny sleeves then it's a poor design, not being vintage.

Us "long armed" folks are just excluded from the norm I guess when it comes to sleeve length....

This is probably true, and yeah, I've never really seen old photos of guys wearing shirts that are too short in the sleeves. Then again, some of them probably sized up so they were long enough, but huge in the body.

I have to say, the sizing and sleeve length on any other MF shirt have been excellent for me. If it's something very casual like this, which would probably be worn under a shirt or over a t shirt, I think something like 3/4 sleeves aren't out of the question. I'm just trying to decide how much I would like wearing it.

I assume the short sleeves are because these are replicas of undershirts and with an undershirt you do not want it to show at the cuffs.

I really like these shirts, but I too think that I would have to try these on to see if I liked them.

Katherine was telling me today that it was quite an ordeal making those shirts. Christophe showed up with the rolls of fabric, then they made a pattern for the shirt. Because it was all deadstock material, they had no idea what would happen when it was washed and dried. So, they cut a standard sized sample of each fabric, washed and dried it, and then measured the percentage that it shrank and adjusted the pattern measurements by that percentage for each fabric. Crazy!

This is actually pretty standard for most apparel manufacturing. Its a pain in the ass, but totally necessary. If you don't do it, all your colors will fit differently.... no good.

At Stronghold we would do shrink tests on rags of new fabric. What you do is stitch a two foot square on a piece fabric and give it whatever wash the final products will get. Once done, measure the size of the stitched square and you determine the percentage shrinkage, in both length and width (i.e "2.5 by 3.5"... meaning 2.5% length, by 3.5% width).

You give these %'s to your pattern maker and they adjust the patterns accordingly. In most cases its just plugging them into software and printing new patterns.

NOT, by the way, intended to make any less of Christophe's process...... We all know he's a madman..... These shirts are gorgeous, I've been by the store twice already to fondle them and decide which color I'm getting....

here is a fit pic of the new mf undershirts. this is a med. short in the sleeves , fitted body and dropped shoulders. but as you guys are talking about the fit is a little different for each fabric. it has a very faint print of 7161 along the neck line. very thick fabric. i really like this shirt. great layering piece. sorry about the bad pic.

That's a great fit, jacob! It barely looks short in the sleeves, like maybe an inch.

That makes sense, Bill. I think Christophe wound up remaking the patterns by hand, though, which is something I'd totally expect from him. Katherine was also saying that some of the shirts have four different types of stitching, and it was driving the sewers mad. So, which colors struck you the most?

Thanks, man. I think there is only one size of each color, since I think they only had one size tube for most of the colors. I could be wrong though. Katherine said they stretch a ton in width (up to 10" in width?), so I think there is a wide size range for each shirt.
